  1. That's awful, but it was only a matter of time. It was the only place I could be 99% sure they'd have the latest ECM title, the only place for CDs in that corner of town.
  2. The man lived a long time. RIP.
  3. I'd say I first heard of Eno through his collaborations with Bowie and Fripp in the '70s.
  4. Those years seem to be some of the best.
  5. Harold Budd – Children on the Hill (Live ’82) The recording that Kyle Gann blogged about a few years ago shows up on YouTube.
  6. Stars of the Lid.
  7. amen.
  8. Really?! That's weird to even think about, would have made it a very different band, not bad, just different!
  9. Amen to all that!! Did Jack Bruce and John McLaughlin ever team up again on anything?? Devastating combo on those two tracks in particular. Tony Williams Lifetime. and There's one track on John McLaughlin - Electric Guitarist, Are You the One? Are You the One? with Tony Williams. and an unrecorded 1979 group with Stu Golddberg and Billy Cobham. There's a concert video of this floating around. and...Spectrum Road.
  10. Ted Panken on Jim Hall.: R.I.P. Jim Hall (Dec. 4, 1930-Dec. 10, 2013)
  11. NPR: "The creative jazz guitarist Jim Hall died on Dec. 10, 2013. We remember Hall with a five-song introduction to his music by guitarist Rez Abbasi, originally published Dec. 1, 2009." Jim Hall: Guitar As Miniature Orchestra
  12. I heard Charles Tolliver and his grp, here in my little postage stamp size town of Rahway, NJ. Hamilton Stage is a new 200 seat venue, only in it's second season. Beautiful music in a real nice room. Recorded for future broadcast on NPR next year.
  13. I've never seen that Bern Nix album!
  14. I'm sorry for your loss. I lost a string of people in my life in the past few years starting with my Dad last year and including my oldest sister a few months ago. We just had the memorial for my sister last week.
  15. He should!
  16. Money from Grean Day n NJones fans is what its all about.
  17. Well, the NYT called Meat Loaf, Mr. Loaf. Yeah, but I am a good 40 - 42 or so years younger and in better shape! Still not used to anyone calling me Mr., or Sir....for a second I think my Pops must have shown up. Your day will come.
  18. People start calling you sir and next you're forgetting which glasses you're wearing.
  19. I wasn't interested when it came out, John wasn't playing electric guitar on it. Eventually came around and really wore out those three albums. And bought 'em on CD too, later. From wiki: "Two concerts at the Montreux Jazz Festival (July 6, 1976 and July 8, 1977) are included among the 17 CDs of the box Montreux Concerts by John McLaughlin."
