Quite excited to be listening to this for the first time, found a CD recently.

Thanks Flurin for the details on this Intakt release. Unjust Malaise collects a lot of his best works and has very good notes from Mary Jane Leach. I especially enjoy The Holy Presence of Joan d'Arc on that one, but all tracks are quite something. That release got me seriously interested. Listening to this away from home

I didn't realize it was rare as a CD. ECM should consider re-releasing it.

I have two of these (Wayne Shorter and Blakey& Jazz Messengers) and they use RVG masterings.

Also highly recommend the following album, Tropic Appetites, which bears many similarities and yet might be easier and arguably stronger.

Received and enjoyed it very much while the site was down so only reporting now. Congratulations and thank you very much for allowing us to access to this music in such an informative way. Looking forward to plunging into this again, as it's very new to me, not much to compare to yet. Loving the instrumentation.

Enjoy your concerts. Saw them 3 times in the last two years and they always performed magic. It's hard to say what's happening, and even which one of the three I prefer individually (though I am very fond of Chris Abrahams' playing), good thing we don't have to choose. I like them on record too, but don't have my own copies yet, might get the Necks box on Rer Megacorp.

Thanks Flurin for the detailed reply, and to the others too! Hopefully I do have some Lester Young to ease down the harder moments in life (the Decca Basie, the Aladdin twofer, and the Billie Holidays essentially) and Hawkins (the Mosaic is great). I understand better now how these are situated relatively to those, and will try for sure to listen to these if I can't own them.

For those like me who are not in the know, is this essential listening for each of the artists included here? The sound excerpts are really enticing. The period seems ideal. I haven't read about this rediscovery and the downloads so would be very interested in what some of you have to say.

I'm worried that some of these musicians would love to be more active, but as has sadly been demonstrated with Sunny Murray, they don't get offered that many dates in late. Coursil plays solo, like last year in a record shop. He would be comfortable of course with much longer playing time, but that's how today's format is. Alan Silva who was supposed to be playing today finally is not, last time he played in Paris as far as I know was two or three years ago. It's also rare to hear Bobby Few nowadays. Last time was him filling in for Arkestra pianist who couldn't come. As for André Jaume, I don't know. He was playing in some festivals a couple of years ago and seemed in great shape. Yes it will be great to see Steve Potts!
