The question is why we see pitchers arms falling apart. Not being a professional and just a fan, I have no answer.

Chuck Tanner, I believe, at one point espoused the idea of bringing in a new pitcher every inning but he never tried it, probably because no one wanted to do it. I’ve heard Mazzone discuss this on several occasions and although I’m not a pitcher, what he says seems logical to me. Did human anatomy change in 30 or 40 years that pitchers can’t more anymore. People in the game and fans now seem indoctrinated that when a SP hits 100 pitches, you have to take him out.

Gil Noble did many good programs on Like It Is. I think he was on Channel 5 WNEW (before it was Fox) or Channel 7 WABC.

Wasn't he the one who said he could have struck out Babe Ruth?

I may be interested also.

I’m listening to disc 1 after not having touched this box for 14 years and maybe age and more listening has made me a bit wiser or more reflective but I was probably hasty in my judgment that I made back in 2004. Really enjoying his playing.

Hope you’re hearing some great stuff tonight!

Having listened to Dizzy’s Big 4 and liking his guitar work, I decided to re-listen to some of his Mosaic, which I haven’t touched in over 14 years.

One of the broadcasters on WFAN in NY noted today two of the very good Yankees in the last 50 years arrived at the wrong time: Mel arrived too late (just as the Yankee dynasty was starting to crumble) and Don Mattingly arrived too early (just before the last Yankee dynasty started to jell). So true.

Adam Gopnik’s take on the WWI documentary. I don’t agree with him but that’s Gopnik. A Few Thoughts on the Authenticity of Peter Jackson’s “They Shall Not Grow Old”

RIP Mel Stottlemyre, a very good pitcher for the Yankees in the 60s and coach for them in the 90s and the Mets in the 80s. A classy person.

That was one of the first CDs I purchased from Hiroshi many years ago.

The Thomas book is old but I think it stands the test of time. I liked Spain in Our Hearts; Adam Hochschild always does a terrific job. Yes, we must meet up some time!

If you become more interested in the SCW, please let me know as I have many books that I can recommend. If Hugh Thomas’ book is too long, Antony Beevor’s might be the right fit.

The Murder of Rosa Luxembourg seems like it could be an interesting book. Both her and Karl Liebknecht, as well as the Spartacist movement, conjure up a revolutionary period of post WWI Germany. But for their murder, they might have remained minor and probably forgotten figures.

The airport, which is the worst airport in this area.

If you're flying in and out of Liverpool, not jolly likely you'll forget him as the airport is named after him.

I’ve never been fond of those e-readers. I like to hold the book in my hands. Probably the same reason I prefer CDs over downloads. However, if you’re traveling, I understand the logic in an e-reader.

Will it be snowing for the game today?
