  1. Agreed. He’s out there busting his hump and doing something and I’m glad he gets a little recognition.
  2. Here's a recent article by Daniel Mendelsohn (and book review of David Ferry's translation) about Virgil's Aeneid. You might also be interested in Mendolsohn's memoir “An Odyssey: A Father, a Son, and an Epic.” Terrific book about him and his father and the Odyssey; he teaches Classics at Bard
  3. Try Emily Wilson’s translation of The Odyssey.
  4. Almost finished watching the series. Gives a look into what life is now like and could be like in our technological future. It’s scary. Some weird stuff.
  5. Aside from the music, always loved the cover photo.
  6. It’s tough getting older. Went through that with my late Mother. Sorry about your good friends.
  7. I worked in a corporate environment so I know what you mean. I’m probably a high B but my wife is definitely an A. You may not always like As but they do get things done.
  8. He’s a go getter, probably an A personality. People like him are used to getting things done. Hopefully he can find sessions worth bringing out.
  9. A couple of years ago I read his Act of Passion. This was one of his hard novels.
  10. I'm a subscriber to his blog and while I don't read every post, he does bring some unknown or neglected artists to the fore. I'd recommend taking a look.
  11. Glad I have mine.
  12. Her singing on the song seems ok to me. The piano intro seemed a little different. As far as oversized colored glasses, that’s the in thing nowadays.
  13. Please let us know how the book(s) are when you receive them.
  14. Although the current wisdom that Mosaic may not make a post 59 set may be correct, I'm not sure that can be yet written in stone. The Crosby set discussion reminds me of the discussion that we had almost 20 years ago -- time flies! -- about the Four Freshmen set.
  15. I just looked at the Dizzy one. They were made in Spain and I think originally only intended for Spain. The covers were in a bluish tint.
  16. Years ago, I purchased some cds issued under the Blue Note Collection. I think it was discussed here, maybe 10 years plus ago. One of the titles was Dizzy Gillespie Live at the Village Vanguard with Chick Corea and Elvin Jones (two volumes). I wonder if these types of things are being considered.
  17. Nice varied selection
  18. This sounds like very good news. I bet Alfred would approve!
  19. I have that particular Bebop Revisited on cd. It was Chubby Jackson’s Fifth Dimensional Jazz Group: Conte Candoli, Frank Socolow, Lou Levy, Terry Gibbs, Jackson, Denzil Best, recorded in Sweden, January 20, 1948. The cd, as well as the lp (I have most of the other lps in the series) show up on eBay from time to time.
