  1. I only have one of his albums (on Timeless), Now Is The Time. Wonderful music with a bunch of heavies like Dexter, James Clay, Herb Geller, etc.
  2. Here's what you should think: "My team now employs a guy who could only hit singles as its hitting coach". Almost as ludicrous as when the Mets recently employed a guy who used to routinely strike out 200 times a year as their hitting coach. Magadan and Greg Jefferies were the 2 biggest "great white hope" disappointments of all my years as a Mets fan. Piece of trivia for ya: As a player with but a few games major league experience, Magadan started the game against Eckersley and the Cubs at Shea Stadium the night the Mets clinched the NL East in 1986. Refusing to be upstaged, Mex forced Davey Johnson to put him into the game in the top of the 9th (replacing a 3 singles (did I really need to point this out) in 3 AB's Magadan) so that he could be on the field for the impending celebration. Once a party animal, always a party animal! Mags' problem was he replaced a legend. I didn't see his career as disappointing, just not as good as it could have been. He had a beautiful swing but let's face it he wasn't your prototypical first baseman. There was no other place they could put him. Another piece of trivia: he's Lou Pinella's cousin. Jeffries was in a difficult position. He was a wunderkid but the players didn't really accept him. He had a rough time in NY. He could have been a great player, a great Met but it didn't work out. A hitter without a position. Good doubles hitter. Bounced around after he left Mets.
  3. I know, it's completely stupid how these experts go on about the Cardinals. You'd think they were the team that easily won their division, racked up 94 wins, had the better ERA, had more saves, more shut outs, gave up fewer earned runs. It's true, the West Coast teams never get the props the teams from East & Midwest do, and I don't care what you guys say, it's true. They probably go on about them because although they are generally no world beaters in the regular season, they are lethal in the post season (at least since 2006). Although I want the Giants to win, I don't think they will and that Cards will repeat.
  4. The Desmond is sold.
  5. NO WAY! Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy -- is there anyone left who he did not throw under the bus? He inherited a mess that wasn't of his making. Unfortunately, he wasn't the right guy for the team. Ownership should take some blame here. It made the division races meaningful. I'M BAAAAAAACCKK! Not really, but at least I can give a shit again. As I predicted. Welcome back.
  6. I don't think the one game play in between the Wild Cards is that bad because as Jim said there will be drama. The other alternative would be to make it a best of three but then the calendar might become an issue, unless you start the season a few days earlier. However, it is fairer,
  7. I actually can see the Rangers winning on Friday as I believe Darvish is starting and Os starters are not lined up ideally. If it wasn't for the second WC, the Rangers loss would rank among the greatest collapses in history along with the Phillies, Mets, Red Sox and Braves. If Rangers win tomorrow, they avoid that but if not.....
  8. There was another bio of Tadd years ago but it sold out quickly and I was never able to find a copy.
  9. I guess we're down to who wins the West and the East. The Yankees seem to have ad there; just don't think the Red Sox can put up any serious competition. In the West different story. Who knows how that will shake out? I really can't see the Rangers being swept. Speaking of the Sox, it sounds like Bobby V is managing his two last games so I guess we'll see Dan back pretty soon
  10. Well, it's an interesting race to the end in the West. Angels have blown a 4 run lead. Santana comes a cropper.
  11. Reducing the Paul Desmond set to $150. Joe Pass reduced to $70.
  12. Both is a good decision. Quebec Hardee is definitely a great one.
  13. Time is really running out for the Rangers. Even with a magic number of 3, they have two more against the Angels & three at Oakland to finish the season. Plus, the angels finish with three at Seattle. The Rangers' arms are starting to look worn out, and after today's game against Seattle, there's no way I'm not looking at Oakland as this year's Team Of Destiny. Making that magic number is starting to look pretty damn difficult. Oakland ain't losing, and Rangers ain't pitching. It is not unthinkable that the Rangers fade hard these last five games and don't even make the playoffs. Shit happens, especially in baseball. And oh btw - Mike Adams is now out indefinitely. So yeah, Angels fans, do not give up hope. The As have some great young arms and obvious team chemistry. Thought the Angels might gain a game yesterday but the As we're not to be denied. I know everyone talks about Buck Showalter for manager of the year but Bob Melvin has to be in the same conversation.
  14. Time running ou on the Halos although Trumbo may have woken up from his second half Rip Van Winkle act.
  15. Don't eat it but like to suck on a peach pit. Looks like I have a chaw in my mouth.
  16. Too bad. I only have Encore but like the album very much.
  17. If he's not in strong contention for the Cy Young, something's very wrong, especially considering the team he plays for. He is the front runner. He's at the top of almost every meaningful statistical category. I was at the game yesterday. The fans went nuts. Great come-from -behind win. Too bad Dickey was pulled one strike away from reaching his all-time high strike-outs in a game (14), but he threw a lot of pitches. At the beginning of the 8th he told Terry that if he got in trouble, he should come get him. He's got one more start so could conceivably get 21.
  18. That's just his way of justifying what he did, not to mention that how can you dispute the claim unless names are disclosed and users confirmed. Any denial by any member of that team would be viewed as "yeah, he's just denying it because we know he did it."
  19. The Chaloff is sold.
  20. Thanks all for the clarifications. Just trying to create some extra room Hate to part with them.
  21. It includes the box and book. I would say the condition is near mint. Each disc has a minor abrasion but it plays perfectly.

    Regards,

    Brad

  23. Possibly the post-season as well... http://espn.go.com/m...pended-50-games On "bright side" (such as it is...) to this - he's copping to the offense and not offering excuses or looking for obfuscations: "Forced" or not, there's always those who will look to play games and buy time. Not this guy (and in this case, his union), and for that, hey, good on him. Figures. Giants just can't catch a break. "The Giants have a knack for attracting players who are: (1) prone to cheat, and (2) ignorant and/or arrogant enough to get caught. Cabrera is the third Giant to receive a 50- or 100-game suspension under baseball's new testing procedures, the most of any team. Guillermo Mota (100 games, earlier this year) and catcher Eliezer Alfonzo (50 in 2008) are the others...." http://espn.go.com/m...sting-peds-work There's also an article about it in today's Times, http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/17/sports/baseball/melky-cabrera-suspension-again-tarnishes-giants-reputation.html?_r=1&ref=sports
  24. I don't how many of you listen to the Yankee radio play by play announcers, John Sterling and Susyn Waldman, but Sterling is unique in his own ways with his HR calls, e.g. "it's a-bomb from A-Rod". Yesterday Sterling made a call in the fourth inning which he got completely wrong and the morning guys on WFAN in New York, Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton, proceeded to dissect it. It's a great listen and laugh out loud riotous. Here's the audio, http://newyork.cbslo...back-with-jets/ The page will say problem loading podcast but you have to scroll down and click on a Classic Sterling Gaffe
