  1. I bought a remaindered copy of Balliett's Collected Works: A Journal of Jazz and read almost all of it (skimmed in places). The guy hates hard bop, and constantly throws in such digs at the genre. I don't feel confident enough to say "fallible," but his tastes are sufficiently different from mine (I listen to lots of hard bop, for instance) that I wouldn't go by his recommendations. I wonder if he still feels the same lo these many years later.
  2. Now that I look at the number again, looks like Ron is probably right. Fire drill over .
  3. Looks like the Farmer has been pushed back as a future project.
  4. I have the following Cds for sale on Ebay: Cannonball Adderley and the Poll Winners on Capitol Diz and Getz - Verve Master Edition Dizzy Gillespie - Have Trumpet, Will Excite - Verve Master Edition
  5. I have for sale on Ebay the Mosaic set of The Complete Pacific Jazz and Capitol Recordings of the Original Gerry Mulligan Quartet and Tentette with Chet Baker. Please contact me with any questions. Thanks.
  6. Allen, I don't always read every thread that's on this board. If someone voluntarily comes on here asks for advice that's different than making public something that could be (I didn't say should) handled privately.
  7. Yanow isn't in the category of a Larry Kart or any number of high-minded, "serious" critics/reviewers. He does yeoman's work, as he himself described it earlier: and on those terms he does a pretty decent job. Amen to that. When I got started AMG was crucial for me and I still consult it. I don't always agree but it's a good reference guide (not perfect, but what is?).
  8. I take this is a vinyl only. Would love to see it on cd.
  9. This is what I found on the web. Can't vouch for its authenticity however. Monday, February 19, 2007 at 8:00 PM, Merkin Concert Hall, 129 West 67th Street, New York City, New York 10023
  10. Chris, It doesn't bother me that much. However, I think that it should have been handled privately. That's all.
  11. Anybody who recorded before 1940 and is still playing today deserves an enormous amount of respect.
  12. Jesus Christ! Reading this is unbelievable. This was a private matter that should have been left private and dealt that way, rather than a public display. Whether or not Scott is correct or not, after he was challenged, he had no choice to respond. That doesn't change the fact that the whole matter should have been dealt privately.
  13. Generally nice list although I have all the ones I'd want to buy so nothing to spend there.
  14. The AMG review mentioned the LPs. You weren't the only one mentioning this.
  15. Just a reminder that the auction ends tonight.
  16. I don't know if chipmunks are like squirrels but the squirrels on our porch get along with the birds. That must have been one ticked off chipmunk.
  17. I haven't been here for a couple of weeks so I'm glad I missed the debate. It must have been bad if Jim had to intervene. Getting back, I wonder how the Tigers will react next year if they don't make the playoffs this year. Total collapse possibly. Just goes to show you that it takes a whole season.
  18. I love the Charo spot and it reminds of the days when she and Xavier Cugat used to appear on the Merv Griffin show. What a howl they were.
  19. I've just listed The Complete Black Lion and Vogue Recordings of Thelonious Monk on Ebay. Please let me know if you have any questions.
  20. Would love to see Where It's At from Kynard. That gets a big from me.
  21. I didn't get a chance to call Mosaic on Friday so I'll try to find out on Tuesday. It would seem rather incredible that so many copies would have been sold already.
  22. End? Not possible, his music lives on. What is it that Gandalf said in the Return of the King about life ending? Not really, it just continues in another form.
  23. I think Mr. Heatwave is heading for a banning if he keeps this up.
  24. Claude, I would agree with you. It does seem quite strange. Perhaps Ron is right. By the way Ron is right on the first count. I did ask this question of Mosaic awhile ago. I will try to follow up with Mosaic.
  25. I received the Dizzy set, number 6907 and taking into account that these are numbered consectively and this is a run of 10,000, I wonder how long it will be before it goes OOP.
