I like some of the jazz offerings on ITunes radio. They have KJAZ and another station that bills itself in the spirit of KJAZ. They also have a station just dedicated to Slim Gaillard. Strikes me as a little weird but hey what the hell, esp. if you need a Slim fix.

Speaking from personal experience, the prices on this set are low so you should be able to get one for $200 or less.
-
If it's a one cd thing, ins't it probably just a "best of" cd? I'm sure the whole set is not $16. At any rate I got my Mosaic a while ago so the money is already gone.

Today's NYT said that the players may face misdemeanors only while the cup thrower could face a felony, plus the Pistons have revoked his season ticket.

I like Brubeck but this Dave Digs Disney must be really good

At lunch today, I was down in the gym and they showed the hightlights, again, together with some of the other things he's done on the court, and frankly I was nauseated. Tjazz can say what he wants with whatever rationalizations he can make up (and he's obviously an NBA fan), but there's no excuse for a human being acting like that. I hope they throw the legal book at him.

Happy birthday to the father of the modern jazz saxophone. He IS Body and Soul!

If you're expecting the Jazz Messengers, don't buy it. It's not that kind of album.
-
There's also that BN release called Art Blakey’s Messengers & James Moody and His Modernists - New Sounds - Blue Note (Modern Jazz Series)but I don't if it's still available.

Tjazz, You've got to be kidding. As a professional athlete, he needs to let the security guards handle this and he has to show some restraint. This is not about entertainment but about law and order, so to speak. He goes into the stands and beats up on some guy. Not only does he deserve to be suspended but he'll probably be doing some jail time also. It's too bad they couldn't kick him out of the game for that kind of conduct. Mess up the Pacer team. This thug needs to know that there are laws about battering people. This is no different than Tyson. Next time somebody thinks about going into the stands, they'll think twice. Instead of thinking about this in sports terms, think about it as person to person. If someone did this to you, that person would get the book thrown at him by the authorities.

COMPLETE KEYNOTE COLLECTION - 21 lp set.
Brad replied to Dmitry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I have this set but didn't get it on ebay. When I was trying to get it on ebay, however, the prices were astronomical. Sets a couple of years ago were going for around $800 to $1000. So, to get it around $200 is very good indeed. On ebay, lp sets don't get as much as they used to. People probably have less disposable cash than they used to. -
I'm going to choose Jazz by Gee, by trombonist Matthew Gee. He didn't have too many leader sessions (there is one other he coled with Johnny Griffin) and this is one terrific cd, made up of two sessions recorded in 1956, with this lineup: The Quintet Ernie Henry Joe Knight Wilbur Ware Arthur Taylor The Septet Kenny Dorham Frank Foster Cecil Payne Joe Knight John Simmons Arthur Taylor I'm looking forward to talking about this cd.

Got it but not yet listened to it. Some of the cuts I heard though I don't know. It's Bud going through tough times. I don't expect it to be that much different from Strictly Confidential on Black Lion.

Many of us sell cds and let the others know through this forum. I think the objection is that you're only coming to this board for this purpose. I'm sure you're a jazz fan and we'd like you to participate in what this board is about. Obviously, no one can stop you and I don't think b3er will but why not participate in the rest of the board. You do have some good stuff and I might even bid but just don't only participate to sell stuff. Post and join the party!

This would seem to be Chuck's kind of guy and probably our kind of guy that we don't want since all of his post are in this forum. Let's pick up the torch. Dude, if you're going to make a contribution here that's fine but just don't show up to hawk wares.

Cool, Baby article
Brad replied to marcello's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
I'm sure the people at Smoke weren't shocked but the writer is just finding out what all of us know and maybe some have experienced as he has. Now, whether or not he becomes a convert, well, who will ever know. But if he's more receptive to jazz (and he must have been to start with or why would he be at Smoke), then that's a good thing. -
Eddie Higgins. Just great. Jim R is right about the Venuses. Very high quality. I've got about 4 of them and recommend them all.

This has been mentioned but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Bud Powell Bill Evans Sonny Clark Cedar Walton Duke Jordan John Lewis Bobby Timmons and the greatest of all Duke! The list goes on and on and on

Larry Kart book signing
Brad replied to Larry Kart's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Are you going to be signing any in the New York area? -
Man, that's a lot of posts.

Dan Morgenstern

After reading the last two posts, that's all I need to know. However, I am quite jealous about the release party. That must have been something else. -
Has anybody picked this up yet. It just came out this week and I was wondering if there was any feedback about it yet.

Verve: Norman Granz
Brad replied to reg's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
This is very strange. Amazon UK has it listed for pre-ordering but not Amazon US. I wonder if Amistad Press, the publisher, is European based. At any rate, it's something I'll want to buy. -
I'm with Stefan on this. There are some good performances on there but it's not the most exciting Mosaic that you can get. As the saying goes, a little goes a long way. I'd probably hold off until they put it which I don't think will be for several years.

I figured that I'd save you some time so you can post more in the political forum
