The ones above 200 are still in print so it shouldn't be more than what you can get from Mosaic. The others are going to be more expensive for sure. For example the Buck Clayton has gone for around $250 so that's $40 a cd. I'd say for the Desmond, that's probably going to be in that area. It's hard to give a real good answer because the market (ebay) goes up and down. Checking ebay and their completed auctions may be helpful. BTW, do you know about the Mosaic web site. It's mosaicrecords.com

Brad, this is the way I see it: People can say whatever the hell they want. Players are free to give it back to them, as nasty as they want. But no one physically threatened the ball player. Whatever was said, there are no circumstances where assault, let alone a violent outburst which is likely to injure other people, is called for. Sticks and stones. Any ballplayer should be able to take any amount of verbal abuse. There is no excuse, no circumstance, and no explanation for heaving a chair into the stands. And no, this isn't hockey either. Hockey has a tradition of fighting and its not surprising that players have gone into stands and attacked fans. This has never happened in major league baseball before and this clown needs to be made an example for any other high strung idiots who think that verbal abuse should be met with physical violence in the middle of the game. Dan, Ultimately I agree with you about the physical abuse. He has to pay the price. But if you or I verbally assault someone in public, at a reataurant, bar, movie, we're going to get punched, etc. I still don't understand why you shouldn't behave at the ball park any less than you would behave in one of those public places. Oh, Ed, the judges just ruled and you've received a mandatory 4/5th deduction, bringing your post count back to 1900 :rsmile:

Sounds pretty cool. I only have the Jacquet so it'll be an order for me.

The most disgusting thing you've ever eaten
Brad replied to neveronfriday's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I don't know if this counts as disgusting and I haven't tried but want to but there's a Chinese delicacy called drunk shrimp. What you do is stick a live shrimp in beer batter, hence "drunk", and then when it's drunk, bite its head off and eat it. It's supposed to be really good. -
A year's suspension? That's nuts. I doubt he'd even get that much jail time. Probably a few months. Again, I repeat, why does behavior that would be unacceptable in other settings and might get you beat up be acceptable in a ballpark just because you've paid to see a game. I see references to the fact that players should take it because they're paid money. In that, I see inferences to the poor working stiff who gets paid to see millionaires. What does your degree of wealth have to do with it. Ladies and Gents, you don't check your manners and behavior when you buy a ticket. Somehow I don't see a $20 ticket or whatever it costs now giving you the freedom to do what you want at the ballpark.

I think a week is enough but wouldn't be opposed to the remainder of the season. Getting suspended is the least of his problems what with one of the victims threatening civil litigation. You can't justify his actions but I've been in the stands and hear what people yell at the players. No one should be subjet to that kind of abuse. Just because you paid a ticket, that doesn't mean you have license to call a person every name in the book. What's tolerated at a ballgame wouldn't be tolerated in any way in a social setting.

I don't know what the contents are but the RVGs don't have all of his output for the label, such as the material that appeared in the Mosaic box or his early sessions or his session with Papa Lou, etc. If you have the Grant Green box, you have a flavor of what they're about. I'd have to see what I have vs. what's in the box before making that decision. I did get the Green box and I have a lot of his stuff but it was worth the purchase since it gives you a cross flavor of his work.

The Dex Prestige box set is now available for pre order at CD Universe.

This is great and I guess fiery for a Bill Evans session, who plays it kind of straight. A very cool Green Dolphin Stree Other coming out today are Jimmy Smith's The Boss, Ahmad Jamal's Chamber Music for the New Jazz, both of which I picked up, plus a Ramsey Lewis title plus Oscar Peterson doing Frank Sinatra, both of which I passed on.

Up, since this is coming out today and I'm picking it up at lunchtime.

This is out tomorrow and I'm excited about the Henderson and the Griffin but from what I've read here and elsewhere the Haynes sounds like a pasadena.

Up, since it's out tomorrow.

This is a very interesting question. To me, it's akin to when drugs go off patent and generics come into compete. The sales for the labeled brand get shot to hell. The same thing will probably happen here and with that happening there would be no incentive to reissue anything. At least when you issue a post 1954 Jazz Messengers, BN is the only one who can do so and keep all the sales. But if Definitve, Proper, Classics, etc. are doing the same, why bother?

Without out getting into particular songs, my favorite period of Wayne would be his years with Art on Blue Note as part of that great quintet in the early 60s. Adam's Apple is quite exhilarating.

What if I mostly dig Vick?

Does anybody have a copy they'd like to part with as a sale, preferably the Japanese issue. I've got Volume 1 and would like to get Vol 2, natch.
-
I've always wanted to get this but for some reason never pulle the plug. I mean with Harold Vick, Johnny Coles and Duke, it's got to be good, right?

I'm with Catesta. The guy could swing, really swing.

Not a huge Hill fan. Just like you don't like Bud, I more or less get the same reaction from Andrew.
-
I've got the Wilson so I'll skip that and I've got the Rivers Mosaic. I'll probably get the Larry Young, skip the Hill and maybe get the Silver.

I'd have to agree with Dave and strongly disagree with Jim. Who can forget the great match that McEnroe and Borg had back in Wimbledon on July 4, 1980. That was a classic thrilling exciting match. Or the matches between Chrissie and Martina. Again, great sports.

Savoy is reissuing this so I hope the transfers are good. I probably have these in a few versions but I need to check to be sure. Might be a worthwhile pickup.

A mighty fine list for West Coast enthusiasts

One in five Germans wants the Berlin Wall back
Brad replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Reunification does cost. It's as simple as that. And it can't be done overnight. I imagine it would take years. The effect of World War II and its aftermath will be with us for hundreds of year probably. I'm sure the costs, material and otherwise, of reuniting the south into the Union after the American Civil War were numerous. I'm not sure we're over the non material costs yet.
