Ejp626 deserves all the credit, not me. I just listened to the disc after he mentioned it. It seems that after the fourth track the rest of the disc is bad. Can't imagine why it would be a collector's item though. It's unlistenable. I'd underadand if it was a Moncur situation. Mine's in the garbage as soon as I get the new one.

I just called Mosaic and the distortion is bad on all Disc 7s. They've notified the manufacturer and they're going to replace them all when they get them in.

You're not the only one. The distortion is bad. At first it sounded like someone playing a tambourine. I'm going to email them right now.

Since Mosaic is no longer making lp sets (or is the Miles' sets still in LP?), these prices are just going to go up, not down.

I received this set this morning and while I have some of the sessions (5 out of 12, which will be going to ebay soon), purchasing it was an easy decision for me. I've been listening to the first couple of cds at work and this set is good it's scary. It's easily going to rank up in my top 3 favorite Mosaics, along with Hank's and Sonny's Mosaic.

Interesting - a much better price. I wonder if the packaging is identical, if the set is numbered, etc. It's probably the same thing as the Mosaic. I'm sure Verve is not putting anything out different. If you look at Mosaic, it says that it's by Universal and manufactured by Universal. Don't explain me to explain the legal niceties since I don't know them myself.

As Kevin says, it depends on the set. He mentions the Shorty Rogers set. That LP recently sold for $182. The CD set is still currently selling for $183. BTW, why not try Ebay for sales. You can factor in the paypal fees and ebay costs into your sales. On the purchase side, jazz record center in New York often has many lp sets.

Today is Charlie Parker's birthday, August 29, 1920, a blessed event if there was ever one. Bird speaks to me like nobody else. I can't really explain it but there's no one who moves me like he does. There's little I can say that countless others have so all I'll say is happy birthday and BIRD LIVES!

Peter, Is this is a lateral or chance for partnership. If they're offering you partnership, if it were me, I'd probably take it, hands down. Otherwise, it's tough but if that's where your wife want to go, regardless, you should do it. Plus it beat rooting for Philly sports teams.

Getting back to the original question, this is a very good session and from my recollection of the Mosaic book quite highly viewed. Hassan's Dream is very well written and tells a great story. Lee's rendition of I Remember Clifford is the most moving version I've heard of this (although not the original one).

I've found that Jazz Discography site to be pretty indispensible, esp for Bud and Dexter.

I just called Mosaic and ordered the Jazztet. However, they said it will be going out Monday or Tuesday unless they're processing outstanding orders first.
