here's another film with richard widmark. hero? villian? who the hell cares!
-
are you forgetting? probably his most famous "good guy" role, which became a tv series. widmark played a hero, albeit a flawed one, in many films, like Elia Kazan's "Panic in the Streets" where he's a doctor chasing down a plague carrier (Jack Palance!).

the relationship between anticipation and perception has been the subject of a good deal of psychological research. anticipation is a process based on the perception that something is going to happen in the future. all living organisms, including humans, use anticipation to guide them in goal-oriented decision-making. It's what makes it possible for us to perform different physical and mental tasks without measuring everything along the way. this doesn't mean that one cannot hear a difference between cables and interconnects, only that what one hears (or thinks he hears) is partly the result of anticipation. when we add to the mix the high cost of some of this equipment, we can expect the role of anticipation to be even greater. if you want to be more convincing to others about the improved quality of a cable, you must due to blind study in which someone else switches the cable, leaving you with the job of simply perceiving what you hear. of course even then, the anticipation of the experiment could influence the outcome. better to have someone sneak into your home and replace your cables without your knowledge. in the name of science, i'd be willing to conduct this experiment for you. just send your keys to me, along with an idea of when you'll be away, and i'll do the rest...for science.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
robviti replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
just got home from seeing the kenny barron trio. simply beautiful. his mature, heartfelt playing brings back memories of the late tommy flanagan and how much i enjoyed hearing his trio. next week, dave holland and robin eubanks at nec. -
here here! happy birthday fred! potete in tensione altri cento anni!

yes, newbury sold the same item three days ago for $415. both auctions began bidding at 99 cents. quite a contrast to the evans set that the infamous norman's of nyc is selling for a buy-it-now price of $599.

unsexiest woman in world named
robviti replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
And they are grateful for the opportunity. gee, do you think they do it for fun? or is it now generally expected that an attractive female actor or musician should strip in the world's most popular men's magazine in order to get attention? don't get me wrong, the female form is incredibly beautiful, clothed or otherwise. i just find it sad and distasteful that this is the accepted way for these talented women to compete in the world. is there anyone here who really sees nothing wrong with this? -

i agree that the idea behind this poll/article is stupid, hurtful, etc. but is it any less respectful toward women than the endless parade of scantily-clad female actors, musicians, etc. that has been this magazine's bread and butter for more than a decade? i suppose there have always been sexy or glamorous shots of women in the entertainment field, but this rag and other others like it reduce many talented women to the status of softcore porn star. -
