  1. The show's theme music was composed by Rick Marotta and Terry Trotter. There was an episode in 2003 called Jazz Records that dealt with Frank's love for the music. Some dialogue from that show: Frank: (to Ray) This is where I used to listen to 'em. I'd come home from a hard day's work, your mother would mix me a drink, I'd come down here, put on the hi-fi, and let Duke and Dizzy take me away ... from your mother.
  2. can anyone help me find a copy of this 1996 release on the claves jazz label? thanks.
  3. on my way home from work this evening i heard a cut from their new recording. it was a very nice version of hendrix's and the wind cries mary. also featured on this cd are covers of una mas and mccoy tyner's inception. i'll definately be looking for this one.

  5. to my ears, the speaker in the clip you provided is pronoucning it as eye-air-toe.
  6. i see the possibility of the opposite happening. as more and more people download the music they want rather than buy cds, there may be fewer individuals selling cds. the resulting drop in supply could keep prices steady, or even drive the price up due to increasing costs.
  7. no, i haven't yet. another one to put on my "things to listen to" list.
  8. i sampled a used copy the other week and frankly, i wasn't impressed. i much prefer adult themes and goat hill junket, which feature larger ensembles. maybe i'll go back and give it another listen.
  9. i just saw the latest south park episode in which they killed off chef. pretty funny stuff, what with him being brainwashed by the "super adventure club" (the scientologists) into wanting to have sex with children. (they pieced together previous dialog for chef's part in this episode.) the kids do their best to save him, but in the end, he chooses the club over them. then he's killed in a classic south park style. at the end during his funeral, they say they don't want to remember him as the chef who turned his back on them, but instead, as the chef who had taught them a lot about life. glad i knew the background of the real story.
  10. perhaps that's because it hasn't been recorded yet. from the website: By ordering the CD in advance, you’ll be doing more than taking advantage of a great offer on some exceptional music—you’ll also help underwrite the cost of recording and producing this keepsake CD set. The Collective will be on tour throughout the U.S. and in Europe in March and April, and SFJAZZ’s sound engineers will make high-end concert recordings all along the way. Your early support of this project through CD pre-ordering will help underwrite the recording process and the CD mixing, mastering, and production to follow over the summer. btw, i just got the single cd of the collective's second season, and i think i like it better than the first season.
  11. I forget is this one on the Byrd/Adams Mosaic yes
  12. i could be wrong, but i think you'll have a better chance of finding what you're looking for if you post this thread in the musicians forum or the offering and looking for forum.
  13. not sure why you're thanking me, since it's gone now. but anyway, you're welcome.
  14. when i responded to your thread, a used copy of this tape was available from a seller on amazon marketplace for $19.99. i assume someone else, possibly even another member of this board, bought it.
  15. tom waits thread
  16. i don't know that this has ever been released on dvd, but there's a vhs copy on sale on amazon's marketplace.

    Bunky Green

sound clips available here: bunky green anyone know where to get this in the states?
  18. i think you got the title wrong. the correct title is booker little in new york, april 1960. i don't believe this is a live date at all. it's a poor copy of a studio recording issued on the time label that includes these two sessions: Booker Little Quartet Booker Little (tp) Tommy Flanagan (p) Scott LaFaro (b) Roy Haynes (d) NYC, April 13, 1960 Opening Statement Time M 52011 Minor Sweet - The Grand Valse - Who Can I Turn To? - * Booker Little (Time M 52011, S 2011) Booker Little Quartet Booker Little (tp) Wynton Kelly (p) Scott LaFaro (b) Roy Haynes (d) NYC, April 15, 1960 Bee Tee's Minor Plea Time M 52011 Life's a Little Blue - * Booker Little (Time M 52011, S 2011)
  19. higgins also played on six of the tracks on dodo green's my hour of need.
  20. Stardust is not included on the Fresh Sound cd. It does appear on Lone Hill's Booker Little Featuring Booker Ervin - New York Session and Collectables' Sounds of the Inner City . If I'm not mistaken. some earlier reisssues of this material, possibly released on the TCB label, edited out Teddy Charles' solos, for some strange reason.
  21. Stockholm, 1961
  22. I have a framed copy of the Blue Note Records RVG Reissue Poster. It's signed "To Rob, Rudy Van Gelder."
  23. I may see them at Chicago's Hot House on April 1st. That is, unless it's a hoax.
  24. the name "liston" has norman origins. one family's website claims there are in excess of 8,000 listons in the world today. btw, melba was from kansas city, sonny from arkansas.
  25. i love watching those early episodes of the andy griffith show. knotts was essential to the show's success, and it's easy to overlook his comic talents. i feel sorry for younger folks who only remember him from three's company. thanks for the laughter. rest in peace, barney.
