  1. In Spain, they say "si si" In France, though, they say " Habituellement expédié sous 1 à 2 mois". In the US, they say " Temporarily out of stock. Order now and we'll deliver when available. We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information. Your account will only be charged when we ship the item." That's ok, I either get it at the french price or I leave it be.
  2. You know, bassoon is not an instrument to just fuck around with and finger-wiggle to get the emotion out, those notes come hard.
  3. I find that not everybody "gets" Karen Borca, but holy shit, she can play, I don't see how that's not blatantly obvious.
  4. do you recall who the arranger was?
  5. Happy Birthday! Please report a questionable post so I can say "hi" personally!
  6. Akiyoshi/Tabackin, because Mosaic sent it to me in error and told me to keep it with their compliments, and also because I figured what the fuck, it's free and it's here, let's listen to it, and believe it or not, I gained a better ear for that music by doing so. But you know, the Moncur, that'sthe shit, that one is. As powerful a cogent a picture of a voice as a full-sized set, but with only threee CD. I also like how they put out all/as much Andrew Hill as they could to get him some bread before he passed. The one with the small groups, that's majestically psychedelic, all the places that music goes, almost goes, and sometimes just tries to go. I still think there's math to be done that makes that series viable. Not saying that the equation was wrong, just that maybe a different equation could be constructed, one with different and/or rearranged variables.
  7. Some guys sell CDs in the lobby. Maybe this time it'll be charts!
  8. When did he rebrand from "Harmonica" to "Little", and why?
  9. Indeed they did, and Muse also did an LP reissue of Fast Last with a new cover and called it Hello Dolly. This pissed me off to no end when my original FL came up missing, and I went looking for a replacement.
  10. He says he still fingers his saxophone...if you have that George Braith LP where he sits in and plays a solo just on his pads...there's still music for him to make.
  11. I'm hoping for Jimmy Heath charts as well.
  12. Johnny Coles is here!
  13. The concept behind the record doesn't matter to me. The music is just dull. What Scott Yanow describes as a source of triumph is, to me, a perfect summation of why the record's so dull:https://www.allmusic.com/album/the-new-standard-mw0000645371 On first glance this record would not seem to have much promise from a jazz standpoint. Herbie Hancock performs a set of tunes which include numbers from the likes of Peter Gabriel, Stevie Wonder, Sade, Paul Simon, Prince, the Beatles ("Norwegian Wood") and Kurt Cobain. However by adding vamps, reharmonizing the chord structures, sometimes quickly discarding the melodies and utilizing an all-star band, Hancock was able to transform the potentially unrewarding music into creative jazz. Yeah, see, that's not jazz musicians trying to get popular audiences to listen to jazz, that's trying to get jazz fans to listen to pop songs. If you do it already, keep doing it, but if you don'...just don't. Train done left the station, and there ain't no train coming back, at least not on these tracks.Jazz musicians playing pop songs to relate to the public...yeah, whatever. Possibilities is a much more fun/less dull record than this one.
  14. + Just now getting to this one 20+ years after the fact, and after a few days with it in the car, I'm wondering what my hurry was...
  15. .Perhaps that was Hank: Yeah, starting here There's some really cool photos of this sextet in action. The Birdhouse, Chicago September 1961, it says.
  16. Reading the Wikki article, it seems that "United Artists" remains a brand that keep being revived so MGM can take it back? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Artists
  17. United Artists records was an organic spinoff from the United Artists film studio, which had been going gangbusters since1919, and which also is a living breathing entity today.
  18. Returned it with interest! Just ordered, long overdue:
  19. What's the story with Tiny Grimes being there?
  20. 75?!?! Canadian years or American? But seriously and sincerely, you have done fine work, no bullshit, half-stepping, or okey-doke-ing. Kudos for that, and may god give you at least 75 more good years!
  21. Check this one out, it's a cover, but with a twist, and at 1:25, holy shit! You can't hide skills, right? You can rebuke them in the marketplace forever, but you just can't hide them. They're like truth, they come out eventually, no matter what.
  22. Jesus, not even 10 seconds in and you're hearing the future.
