  1. transfer problems,to put it mildly, but I guess this is how things ended up for the guy. Pickup bands, albeit with top-shelf local players. And/also, this is the first "Swingtime" video I've seen with original opening/closing credits
  2. Still waiting for a guaranteed interruption-free window to dive in, I guess mine is, at least to that extent.
  3. You have your windows open in February? In Chicago?
  4. Today's the first day I didn't have a goodmayor issue from work. Hopefully the downstream has been cleansed and flushed.
  5. It's a really nuts record.
  6. Deal with it, sinners repent if you think that'll do any good. It won't.
  7. That looks like an online-only Public Domain reissue.
  8. As always, cereal leads the way to start the day. K E Double L O Double Good Kellogg's Best to You! And look at this -Hardware and Software all in the same package. Battle Creek clearly on top of their box set game!
  9. I wish it would stop being ok to dress casual to the point of, oh, I'm coming over with a sixpack, let's watch the game and chill. Rosoce's not even dressing "up" here, and he's still the baddest cat there, the other people look like students, even the older ones. Don't get me wrong, a part of me, BIG part, gets it. But there's a part of me that still says, hey, represent motherfuckers, come correct. Not casting a first stone or anything, can't do that, but...just sayin'. Casual can still be sharp, if you got the ear, have the eye too, that's all.
  10. thank you. thank you. thank you. thank you. THIS!
  11. This goodmayor thing...worked fine all weekend at home, back at work today, woops, there's that goodmayor motherfucker again, cleared everything, there he was again. Then gone. Then back agoin. Back and forth, no constant that I can flag. Maybe somewhere along the way packets are getting thron to some lserver that ain't got the news yet. I don't know, I'm not that smart. Tell you what though, the bowels of the internet could probably use a good cyberenema.
  12. About Pass always being "that way", it's true. But it does seem to have crossed the line form non-irritating to irritating as the 70s came and moved along. I can listen to him just fine on those 60s PJ records. Not so later on, he just bugs me. Huge respect for the guy though, obviously a master craftsman. The Stones Jazz should be reissued by somebody. that's a perfect album of its "type", and nobody involved should disavow it. Oh, I see that it has been: https://www.amazon.ca/Stones-Jazz-12-String-Guitar/dp/B002P3BAVI Not sure if that other one is worth listening to, though.
  13. 1953: https://www.discogs.com/Glenn-Miller-And-His-Orchestra-Limited-Edition/release/4781757 1955, and technically a "real" box. I've seen box sets of operas that appear to be a bit on the aged side, but no idea when that began or with what.
  14. Indeed.
  15. Not sure anymore which is which, but you should know that for one of them, Bob Belden did a remixing of the tapes that didn't make everybody happy. If this is going t be your first exposure to the record, I'd kind of advise getting one that keeps the original mixing, live with it for a while, and then check out what Belden did to it. It's definitely good, but it is different.
  16. And if there was an essentially/currently undocumented performance of Monk on the Tonight show with Art Blakey on drums, Hank on tenor would be a more likely possibility, right?
  17. Yeah, Jackie Paris had a real gift for sex-slave songs.
  18. That "roll up" into the altisismo register is something Teo did a lot. But neither the tone nor phrasing is not really Hank, not even remotely. It very much a "push-pull: feel that is rooted in Hawk in a way that Hank ((or Teo) never was. I'd like to throw out two other possibilities for consideration - Lucky Thompson (seems improbable) or George Barrow. Barrow is a distinct possibility, since this appears to be Monk playing with Mingus' band of the time + Art Farmer. And George Barrow was a " tall, handsome, African-American." as evidenced by this: But Teo's recollection seems pretty vivid and specific, and the player sounds more likely to be Teo than it does Hank, I mean, there is nothing about that playing that resembles Hank, even if there is not too much that resembles Teo as I've heard him. from that time.
  19. Here, Hank talks about playing with Monk in 1957:
