How to get the entire world to hate you... Poor Cecil.

Quick! What is the longest single jazz track that's good?

I'm never paying for anything ever again, especially books and records. Half-Price, Shmaff-Price. These days, it's free or go home! -

I'm reminded of Ike Turner: "I didn't hit her more than the average guy beats his wife." Sometimes, you know, times really DO change, but not everybody figures it out all at once. This Minnesotan Lion Killing Dentist is probably still wondering what the real problem is, he was all legal with it and it's something that happens all the time, so, what, right thing, wrong place, wrong lion, damn social media and stuff like that, and, no, asshole, that's NOT it. -
Al Bundy's not funny either. Seinfeld's funny if you buy into the premise to begin with, but having seen Larry David in action for a while now, hey, just sayin'. The Source is alwyas the best. Tati might be funny if you're on ludes, maybe then. But that's not my thing. If you're gonna slow down that much, the joke will be over before you can laugh, which means that you're never sure it was funny to begin with, and in Tati's case...yeah, every now and then there's "humor", but on the whole, I'm quite sure it was never funny to begin with. You know who's funny? Everybody. Except Jacques Tati & Al Bundy. And that Dice Clay guy. Dice Clay is to comedy what Walter Palmer is to life in general, you know, is this really NECESSARY, no, not really.

I also very much liked George Harper with Doug Carn, Marvin Cabell with BJP and on his own solo album, and hey, how about Rudolph Johnson in general (look for him on some latter-day Ray Charles records). Wilton Felder, not at all overlooked, but definitely under-appreciated as an individual player...or is that a different thing altogether?
-
Some tenorists: Hadley Caliman (so many years, so much being there, so much overlookedness) Willie Maiden (so many sweetsweetSWEET tender tenor solos in Maynard's band, the one on "Come Rain Or Come Shine" is practically an invitation to weep freely) Hugh Brodie (with Cal Massey on candid, who else was into Trane like that at that early date?) Prince Robinson (thanks, chuck!) Big Nick Nicholas (oh HELL yeah, big Nick BRUNG it!) Oliver Nelson (arguably, the most arresting solos on Blues and The Abstract truth are his own) George Garzone (not an "obvious" player, outward appearances to the contrary) BILL BARRON

Yeah, but that Jacques Tati guy, talk about watching paint dry and laughing every time a spot stops being wet, I'm telling you, too much time on your hands if that makes you laugh, I think. Either that or you live in a movie theater and were gonna be there anyway. Something...there's a difference between slow-paced and just flat out comatose.

Whoa, free book chapters? That's better than $1 album cuts! -

Can you apply the credit to a chapter out of a Kindle book instead? If, so, what's the longest chapter out of any book? -

When I get those $1 credits, I just buy a pop single that I like but would never obtain otherwise...I think the last one was "Playboy" by Gene & Debbie...No, it was "Keepin' It To Myself" by Ben E. King w/the AWB, that's what it was, right when Ben E. King died. I had a credit and that was a good thing to use it on. -
Ok, I'll say it - whiteframe glasses do not work for me, ever, on anybody of any gender, at any time for anything. AutoInstant "BEWARE, Thar Be At Least Some Bullschite Here".trigger.

Yes, team needs some more moves to get the rotation (hell, hte battery, period) stronger. We shall see. As it is, Matt Harrison gone, sentimental favorite, but pretty sure Cole Hamels will hold up better than Matt Harrison. Playoffs this year? Not using any calender system I have access to.
-
We'll see...this is a team that should be playing better than it is, but it's also not as good as we'd all like for it to be...pitching has been pitifully erratic, and it will take more than Cole Hamels to fix it. But as far as is this deal itself in and of itself one to have made, I think, sure it was. Just...now, where's the rest of them?

Things Written On Used LPs You've Picked Up

Underlined in the same ink is the song title "Secret Love". http://davidwier.com/family/wier/aqwg21.htm I guess the moral of the story is to not let your Robert Farnon records end up in Half Price Books if you have any secrets. -
Regarding Prestige, remember that all but the first "Classic Quartet" albums were recorded in two "marathon" sessions for the purpose of contract fulfillment, and that Miles had already begun recording for Columbia. Weinstock knew that big things were to come, so he had four albums in the can ready to release as time went by. AMG gives the release dates as follows: Cookin' - July 1957 Relaxin' - March 1958 Workin' - September 1959 Steamin' - May 1961 Other than that, relevant to Newport, July 17, 1955 Blue Moods - Recorded July 9, 1955 (!) The Walkin' session was first released on two 10" LPs, so they probably would have would have been heard by then. Per Discogs, the three quintet pieces with Sonny came out in 1954 http://www.discogs.com/Miles-Davis-Miles-Davis-And-The-Modern-Jazz-Giants/release/4076578 The Bags' Groove session first came out (without the alternates) on two 10" LPs...sometime in 1955 None of these sources are exactly definitive, obviously, but it seems safe to say that the audience at Newport in 1955 would have already had access to Walin', the quintet with Sonny, and, maybe a Bags' Groove 10'. Whether or not they/some of them had availed themselves of that access is another question. I don't know if it would be unsafe to speculate that the whole "comeback" buzz/marketing was made possible by "people" not paying too much attention past the Capitol Birth Of The Cool 10", material which grew in stature only after its initial releases.

Speaking of suspending common sense...the recent allegation that Bill Cosby has sexual contact with a 15 year old girl at the Playboy Mansion in 1975(?). am I the only one who thinks that no matter how degenerate an incident that might have been, the real story here is that there was even a 15 year old girl available for sex in the Playboy Mansion in the first place? How did that happen? Will either the prosecution or the defense be seeking an deposition from Hugh Hefner?

Bobby Brown had, if nothing else, mojo. When he had it, and for as long as he had it.

Catching up on Keye & Peele in the wake of their announcing the end of their Comedy Central series. Lots of reflexive LOL stuff from these guys, as well as some high-concept comedy as well, often within the same bit. Impressive. Also now have the Comedy Central Roku station, so discovering some things, like Broad City, which is looking to be one of those dry things that is funny in the cumulative...I love it when that happens. Also Why? with Hannibal Burris...still finding its pace, but then its good its damn good, and flying Lotus is on hand as DJ.
