Yes, the original Philles LP, because nothing sounds 100% like Philles except Philles original pressing, and also because I got lucky about 30+ years ago and found a sealed copy in some weirdass mom & pop (minus the pop and + the Laura Wingfield on Thorazine sidekick) store in Fort Worth with cats running the show, yes, real cats.

Always a fun experience, one way or the other. "You are So Beautiful"...we sang that to both of our babies every day, and I played it at our son's wedding. RIP, and thanks.

Seeing a pullback on this photo would probably be a mind-blower. I always assumed pretty absentmindedly that Jackie was on a sailboat until I looked closer and realized that he was probably on the roof of a building. But seeing the shot contextualized would be pretty incredible I'm sure. Yes, I asked that question back on Board Krypton, and the answer was that, yes, it was on top of a building in NYC, and that that's some sort of broadcast-tower-ish thing he's holding on to.

Brehda's spent the last 10 days watching Grand Hotel on Netflix...can't say that I've enjoyed it, but it seems interesting enough and very well done. What cracks me up, though, is that I've been seeing television in Spanish for about the last 40 years (going back to the Saturday afternoon music shows on Channel 11 that were to local what-was-not-yet-called-Tejano audiences what shows like Porter Wagoner & The Wilburn Brothers were to C&W fans, except instead of commercials for Solstice & Stanback, country people always seemed to have some kind of issues with body comfort (and don't try to convince a BC user to use Stanback and/or vice-versa)t, the commercials were for the local mercados and showed pictures of the smiling, friendly staffs, only some of whom were not wearing sunglasses, it used to get really sunny here) and this is the first time I've heard it spoken at any length by Spaniards. Crazy, eh? On a scale of 1-10, I'd describe it as sounding Crisply European!

Dude can play anything. Yep. Can and, it seems, does, and always seems to be inside it when he does. You talk about "interesting people", I'd think that he's on the list.

Lew Soloff?

At this time, is anybody in the Cowboys' way other than the Cowboys themselves? You have no idea how weird it feels to say that without even a hint of sarcasm...
-
Definite "yes" here!
-
I don't know that record as well or for as along as a lot of other things, but I do have it!
-
Don't think it is, but it sounds good on its own terms.

The album with CT is a commercial-oriented program executed very well and with the extroverted spirit you'd expect. Commercial, yes, but not at all phoned in. IIRC, McFarland only did 2-3 charts for Mulligan, but they are of prime quality.

I think the place for imposing desire is between the performer and the performance...and even then, not absolutely.
-
"Impose our desires"....was that the phrase you meant to use? It seems kind of...creepy to me. Like here's a performer surrounded by all these craven creatures who are looking for nothing more than to have their way with the performer, and if the performer won't/doesn't oblige willingly, then the audience will impose their desires on them until something gives way. That just doesn't sound like a healthy situation for anybody, either the imposer or the imposee. Not healthy at all.

Summusic - My Trio's Soundcloud (NEW ADDITIONS 4/12)

Two new tunes up, both of which safely can be called jazz. "CHOWHOUND!!!" - an affectionate name bestowed up me my my dad when I'd come back home and start eating mom's cooking. This too is a straight ahead run-through of a theme that certainly stand on it's own, with its own groove, but is also used for compositional improvisations, as with the already posted "Kung Pao Hound!!!" Fans of Cannonball's more open late 60s pieces might spot the original inspiration for the groove here. "Ambien Graves Of Wayne" - the theme used for any and all "Ambien Variations" pieces. Here it is in an early, straight ahead, swinging run-through, made prior to getting into the Variations. Andrew & Carl are eating it up! https://soundcloud.com/summusic-3 Enjoy!- 14 replies

Well, so it is! Good ears, sir. Interesting guy indeed. I was thinking that it sounded like the midway point between Gato & Harold Alexander produced by Bob James..but this is much more plausible.

Slim pickings, if this is any indication: http://vegasjazz.org/events_12_Dec.htm

Lye? WTF is it with lye, anyhow? Remember how Lysol was pushed as a feminine hygiene product? And now you're telling me that some people are driven to eat fish treated in it? Bartender, fix me a Drano Sour. People be crazy sometimes.
-
An eclectic assortment - to say the least. People themselves are eclectic, once you get enough of 'em in the picture to get an accurate picture. Small sample size, skewed evaluations, right?

I can think of no higher calling in life than to impose my desires on externally creative people.

Still trying to get a grip on who #4 might be...I keep wanting it to be Harold Vick, but it's not.

Never had lutefisk, how is it?

'Classical' music from the last 50 years (or so)
JSngry replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Classical Discussion
Internet radio might have to do the same thing these days...I use this one a fair amount: http://www.live365.com/stations/20classics I have it on my Roku, and what I really like is that there's a feature there that will email me the track info of any given thing that they're playing. So if I hear something that sounds like something I want to get more into, I just hit that button, and then at some point, check the email, do the research, and then, if desired, go shopping, all from the same chair. Putting in another plug for this station and the email track info feature. Have discovered significantly more genuinely new music/composers/performers of interest in any idiom this year through this channel than anywhere else. The whole setup seems perfect to me, there's no interruption/impediment from initial exposure to final purchase (other than the occasional incident where a recording will be either totally OOP and or prohibitively expensive...but it's usually the other way around, used copies on amazon for very, very little money). Kudos to whoever is programming this thing, very little repetition, and very little fluff, and kudos to Live365 for their concept.
