Fish don't fly as easily as they once did. Something to do with air density or some such, I don't know, I'm not an icthyophericist.

Can't say I "love" any of it in a throbbing-ish manner, but do love it in an older, more mature adult manner just because it was Tony finding a vehicle and treating it older, more mature adult manner. The career path of Tony Williams was not always rife with things treated in an older, more mature adult manner. In other words, it's really where I'd send anybody (including myself) to look for TONY WILLIAMS, but it is part of the whole story, and a pretty nice part at that.

Yo, that 1:00 played them parts very well, Truesdell got them phrasing and balancing like it needed to be...whatever "shortcomings" one could find with solos, rhythm section (at times) etc. oh well, ok, whatever, that was not what I went expecting to be "impressed" by, I wanted to hear them parts put together like they were intended. This is some of the finest writing of any idiom, ever, and it got played very well, Now that Truesdell's got a "thing" going with this book, the opportunities to do something like hear the entire Miles Ahead suite performed live, or the transition from "Round Midnight" to "Manteca" executed seamlessly like the mindfuck it is, hey, those opportunities might one day become commonplace. I hope to live on that day in that world where it is. But hell, I don't know how much longer I'm gonna live, so I took a chance. I intentionally sat down-fronitsh so the miking wouldn't color things too much, and yeah, that Gil Evans, man that's some music for your ears right there, that is. I don't know if I'll ever go to another 1:00 concert again, but even more uncertain than that is whether I'll ever again be motivated to give a standing O to that band for that job done that well. Hell, they got some tuba player from the "classical" department, and this dude nailed the shit. Four days lead time, and tuba is to Gil what Carney was to Duke (notice similarity of that as well as difference), and this cat plays a 90 minute set damn near perfectly. Not Billy Barber perfect, but the world that produced Billy Barber no longer exists, so, hey, Howard Johnson, and then today, it's a chair, ok, just respect the chair and you're on the way there. $8.00 & 5 PM. How 'bout that for some extreme variations on the misery? -

Yeah, SCTV was where I first knowingly encountered him (come to find out he was on some of National Lampoon records, but the name meant nothing to me then)., so SCTV is my first instinctual thought when hearing the name. I always dug him, not just his lines, but everything, timing, voice, face, body language, everything. He was one of those guys you sensed just knew funny, as both instinct and as science. He will be missed. RIP, and thanks.

I agree, mostly, but Barrere had enough wind in his sails to get them through Time Loves A Hero, which was a hot eclectic mess in the way that only a late-70s L.A. jazzy-rocky hot eclectic mess could be. It was like they had a band, and Lowell was still alive, so it seemed like they were all going full speed ahead thinking like, ok, fuck you Lowell, we can do this without you, and then he goes and dies, and well, uh...we can't do THIS without you at least THREATENING to be here, and then that's when it turned into a retro-gimmicky self-cover band for me, and ok, game over. But 62 bucks for 13 CDs? That's a good price just for the ones I'll play more than once, never mind all the extra waste thrown in to eat up space and look impressive. I think I might go in for this! Also-again, yeah, Time Loves A Hero, all bands on the verge of self-destruction should sound so good. I had to hear so much drooljizz about Jeff Beck going "fusion" with Jan Hammer yadayadayada wank on, pass, thanks, "Day At The Dog Races", one stop shopping, one tune, that's that whole thing wrapped up, over and done with, out the door, flip the record over and keep going, and thank you so much for doing that, Little Feat, whoever you were and/or were not then.

Made me think of this thread: Poor background singer, she looks like she caught it full force. On nights like that, no matter how much the gig pays, it ain't enough. -
I heard him on SNL a few months ago and he sounded weak and hoarse and I thought uh-oh, here we go, but the next week he was fine again. Sigh of relief breathed. 96!

If he fliers in the local restaurants are any indication, Indian Classical Music is presented not-irregularly in the northern suburbs. I haven't attended any of the events, generally because of the stupid reason that I see a poster in a restaurant window and then forget about it after eating. So, thanks for posting this here, instead of in a restaurant window. -
What live music are you going to see tonight?

Also made it to the Lloyd gig, and yeah, beautiful. I'm not so much into the whole "magical" and "transported" thing these days, at least not as leading indicators/selling points, but I am into gorgeous tone, masterly phrasing/pacing, playing silence, and subtle-yet-exquisite taste in clothes. Charles Lloyd delivered all of that in abundance, very glad I was there. Did not know Gerald Clayton before last night, but the guy has huge ears, a marvelous touch, and also dresses well. He also seems to be one of these guys who probably plays a lot of different "ways" to meet the need of any given situation, and if you can do that without sounding obvious/derivative/etc. then that's just good old-fashioned skill. So, whoever you are, Gerald Clayton, my bad for not knowing your name or your work. If I had one complaint (and, really, none would be called for in the specifics of this evening), it would be the use of miking. It was a good hall with good sound, a good piano, and a reedist who has mastered the sound of his instruments (he was playing a few flute notes away from the mike, and I heard him just as distinctly as if they were on mike...and never mind the tenor, hey...). With just a duo, in that hall, I really do not think that miking was required...but I understand how it is "expected" these days...world gone wrong from good intentions, perhaps? Also, I had never seen a Chinese oboe until last night. That's one intriguing-looking instrument, that is. -
If it's the score you want, it should be here: http://web.cfa.arizona.edu/riddle/collection/index.html#search Getting a copy, much less parts, might prove more challenging. But start asking questions here.

But, but, but...Pay-Day (in its original recipe) was the...Bill Barron of candy bars. -

70s Jack Webb shows, even more at least...I've gotten to where I can spot her even before the close-up, and I give an extra stop to pay attention, because I know I'm in for a rare treat of TV acting. Apparently she was all over the place all over the times, but I do not know about that, at least not consciously. But I do know skills, and she really had them!

I don't see PayDay, I am not convinced of that list. That's the one I'll eat even when not eating candy! -
So now I would ask is nail75 involved in the release of this release that he knows how much Juanita Giuffre is paying for canned raviloi and related table utensils?
