Don't usually do birthdays here, everybody's got one, and it seems like they keep happening every year. The buy-in price is low enough, but then lord, the maintenance! OTOH, exceptions are made to be broken, so yeah, Happy Birthday!

I've had a steady diet of Fela for the last few weeks, and yesterday I started hearing how in his tenor playing, there would be these flashes where the sound and the articulation comes together in such a way that for that quick moment he sounds like Charlie Rouse. Once I noticed it, I started listening for it, and...it happens more than I would have expected. Over as soon as it begins, almost, but it occurs every so often over and over. So, that's the game right here, right now, right on. What about y'all?

Yeah, that's what my son told me, that they're using this as a pivot-point into Touch Screen FutureWorld. His wife bought a W8 laptop on a REALLY good deal and was ready to take it back within the first 30 minutes, which in the cumulative leads one to ponder if they're pivoting into a future that will not include them b/c they didn't pivot so much as jackknife themselves into a broken neck or some such. I can take progress being awkward, and I can take progress being stupid, but both? Is that really necessary? Maybe so, but jeez, really?

Would like a new PC/laptop/tablet/pad/whatever, but have been staying the hell away from getting one b/c I more or less "need" Windows for work-related reasons, and what I've seen of 8 scares the hairydonekeyballed bejeebers out of me. supposedly(?) a Service Pack To Kiss It and Make It Feel Better is on the way, but...jeez, was it THAT big a deal to get 7 outta the way? Truth be tole, I was liking Vista just fine after SP2, but that was as a clean installation, as an install over an existing system...would not want to go there. But did not have to. Maybe I should just learn to go SmartPhone once and for all (don't really own one now, just carry my wife's if needed), just JUMP and make the leap from Point A to Point Z1 and just get it over with. This whole terminal-based/tied thing is on the way out anyway, right? although...are cloud servers REALLY in clouds, or on the ground somewhere in a network of fixed location? Yeah, that's what I thought...

why three people? -
The Navy stuff is of "historical importance" only, imo. The Hodges gig, ototh, is pretty nice. It's on amazon under the title BT provided. Not gonna link it, b/c this RLR outfit exists more or less only to get themselves paid off of stuff that used to be online for free (and before that, tradable, again for free) and they can kiss all of my mofunkinass because of that (and more), but...it's there, won't pretend it's not.

When you have a good memory, as I do about certain stuff, it's easy to forget how much you still forget. Since the JC board is going away, I was looking through some stuff I wanted to save, including a very old humor thread (I forget if it was "Ask steve(thelil)" or another one that I ran my mouth off on) . Anyway,on that OLD thread, I noticed a frequent and funny contributor who from an identical or VERY similar handle I recognized as being the artist who posts here as Jsngry. It was a name I recognized from this week on Organissimo, but had no recollection of from Jazz Corner. Small world. HOWEVER, Since it was an archived JC thread, it is possible that he posted under a DIFFERENT alias, but whose real name showed on the archives. (I know that has happened) I think I went by Jim Sangrey there. That was when I was still thinking that I could have a career in " creative music" by positing on the Internet all day on every site possible and playing a few local gigs a week, and have a happy stable home life by taking the kids to/from school & by positing on the Internet all day on every site possible,& by letting my wife worry about such trivialities as making money and keeping the house clean and fixing most of the non-fast food meals we ate. I'm sure there's a way to make that a winning combination, but it eventually became apparent to me that choices would have to be made, down would have to be pared, so...still got the wife (she's much happier now, as am I), still got one site to call "home", and,,,here we are. Maybe this will bring back memories...Good stuff. http://speakeasy.jazzcorner.com/speakeasyarchive/thread.php?forumid=16585 Wow, that was...a long time ago...I'm surprised anybody would remember that. Nice that you did. Thanks! -

And - no more "finger-pointing", in any direction, about who said what where. The internets are freely readable to all with internetage, so anybody who really wants to know who said what where can go read it there - and respond to it there. Not here. On to more compelling matters - I'm still wondering - why three people? If I could count the number of times I've been stuck at two or had to pare back to three from four, I could count to many numbers, believe me. -
