Speakeasy Jazzcorner Forums Shutting Down July 1
JSngry replied to BeBop's topic in Forums Discussion
This board was founded out of a cyber-diaspora, so believe me, we understand. I do anyway. The only issues that might arise would be those stemming from blatant scab-picking, or any other sort of ad-hominem negativity. That ain't gonna work. But that holds true for all members, old and new. Other than that, y'all are welcome here, so start naming three peoples, fours and afts, and/or five basic food groups, all in the form of album covers whenever possible. -

Just checked to see if I had the ability to edit out his birthday on his profile, which is, I think, what triggers the "Happy Birthday" listing. I don't. Maybe Jim A does. Will look into it, seems a not unreasonable request. -
Ah, Bunky. No wonder I heard Steve Coleman! I have that LP, but only got it recently and have only preview-played it so far. Need to get into it a little deeper, obviously!

Damn Spot Live - June 6th Meridian Room (Dallas)
JSngry replied to JSngry's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I can pay your bus fare if you like scenic routes and stuff like that, seriously, yes. -
Thanks to the generosity of Greg Waits, through the auspices of the Meridian Room, and after a somewhat prolonged absence from public display, Damn Spot (Jim Sangrey, Lyles West, & Denis Durick) will be performing at The Meridian Room on Thursday, June 6. There will be free improv, there will be originals, there will be standards, and if you can distinguish none but enjoy all, we will have met our goal. The gig runs from 9-12, and won’t make you deaf. Stirred, hopefully, but not deaf. Not unless that's what you want, in which case, sit real close. http://www.themeridianroom.com/ 3611 Parry Ave Dallas, TX 75226 (214) 826-8383

Gorgeous trees indeed. We have one in our back yard that is quite large (pre-massive, one could say), and healthy as you'd want it to be, as are all our other trees. Just wondering if we should've pulled the plug on this one when it first started getting sick, like, are they great trees that are generally healthy but once they get sick, they got no recuperative powers? I'd get another one in a second if I knew what the problem was that got this one. We put that tree in, like no later than three years after moving in. It's grown up with the family, so to speak. Brenda actually got a little emotional about it. Me, not so much, but I do enjoy giving a good tree a good home and us both growing old together. That's a hardcore win-win right there!

Denton? Just for grins, print this out, take it to Elliot's Hardware http://www.elliottshardware.com/ go to the screw department, and see if there's any that they don't have. Yes, Elliot's has a screw department, and I'd be shocked if they don't have a screwdriver for any of them. Home Depot & Lowe's and all them are fine, but Elliot's is what makes them conveniences, not necessities.

Am I reading the site right, that if you want to pay more than $7.00, you can?

the strange saga of outsider music and bioterrorism
JSngry replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous Music
No idea if this guy would have been a bioterrorist or not, but if you want to talk "outsider" music, well, here you go. http://www.cheezeball.net/mp3s/WeeWillieShantz-HushPuppyHush-OddballAuditoriumVersion.mp3 http://www.cheezeball.net/mp3s/WeeWillieShantz-CooCooBird-OddballAuditoriumVersion.mp3 -

Tree had be getting dead branch ends on one side for a few years now, but sprouting new leaves closer to the trunk, so we figured the thing was fighting back against whatever it was. But on Saturday afternoon, heard this prolonged groaning sound and then a little-less prolonged rustling sound and said to myself, that's not normal...looked out the front window and there it was, 20+ years old, easily 30+ feet tall. Looked like one side of the roots just...ceased to exist, and gravity finally won. No strong winds going on, nothing. Fortuitously, did not land on roof, car, fence, person, pet, anything, and just banged up one corner gutter on its way down. Not enough damage to file insurance on, not with our deductible. But money/luck is not the issue. What I'm wondering about is what kind of behavior was exhibited by this scenario. Can a tree more or less die in one half of its root system, or what? We'd pruned the dead branches off to "give hope" to the live ones, but the tree was not serious one-sided or anything as a result. Is there a tree surgeon in the house?

what is 'modern' to you???
JSngry replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Sometimes I think that the only true "modern" is that which is happening than nobody's figured out enough about to label "modern". That might be extreme, but maybe not...especially if capturing is necessary for labeling, and labeling is necessary for selling (If not the thing, then the discussion about the thing). Maybe that's it - modern is those "things" which have not yet been identified as things. Or not. There's a lot of ways to look at things. Such as this. -
Nope, Judy Landers. Jim R for the close Enough.
