  1. If it was my daughter (and it has been!) the shopping would be done online and from Japan (and it was). And yes, there would be shoes. T-shirts, skirts, and shoes. But there's always shoes. I don't understand, and the more I try to understand, the more in awe I become of how I will probably never understand. The one thing I have come to understand is that my younger-days assumptions about "fashion" and "style" being a bunch of evil slave-inducing vomitbullshit were woefully simplistic. I still feel that about the industries, but the impulses that those industries feed off of...I've come to realize that, just how some people define/refine their reality through sound, so do some through appearance, and not just in their young-rebellious phase either. And like sound, some people are shallow/trendy, and others can really get into it and develop some serious skills. I mean, my wife, who is no slouch when it comes to buying well and looking good, asks our daughter for fashion advice now, especially about colors and patterns and such, and the results are consistently excellent. There's always shopping (and now, Skyping) involved but there's something enjoyably organic going on there...I feel enriched seeing it happen.
  2. That's funny, but seriously, I found myself enjoying Dr. John's Ellington album a lot more that I anticipated. Not sure what that means about anything, but I went into it expecting to come out cynical and pissed off and....didn't happen. Mileages, vary, etc.
  3. Fascinating how ecosystems work, for real, and/but...but are they really having tornadoes in Boston right now? Does that happen often?
  4. Mtume, was always cool with me Some/most of the others, not so much. So...David Lee...I hope that whatever became of him was benevolent in nature...very much a fan of his playing. WHOOOSHY cymbals and a great pocket go straight to my heart.
  5. Cable sex all sounds alike to me, and that's the only part of GOT that gets my attention.
  6. Well, yeah. And what's Gregory Porter? I swear, to me, he sounds like the Archie Whitewater album only with digital production. Rhetorical question, that. Y'all hear him, I don't. Saul Goode, go for it. But for my taste, better Kem than him, genre "considerations" aside. I think Kem means it more, but that's all subjective. You know, as long as we're talking good pitch, good diction, and chick-appeal, is Johnny Mathis still alive? Get him to do an album with Gil Goldstein arranging in recognition of his recordings with Gil Evans. I'd definitely buy that.
  7. Kem should be on Blue Note too. More women would buy Blue Note records than at any time in the history of the world, even more than from when there were no records to buy!
  8. Gibson & McCarver in 1968?
  9. Could Bob Cranshaw & Tony Allen hook up? Once upon a times that never would have intersected, yeah, I think so. Check out Cranshaw here, rock-solid on where the one is, and able to hit upbeats like they're allbeats, which is what you want, right? Contrast with Gene Perla (for whom under many other circumstances I have felt much admiration), who is definable feeling "syncopations". instead of allbeats Also note the missed absence of Mtume, the neutral presence of Rufus Harley, and how in both cases - David Lee!

I'd like mine with the tint already on. Is that available here, or does it require a special order?
  11. Not a fan of The Doors past the hits (AM & a little FM), but kudos to anybody who could always rock the glasses like Manzarek did. Not everybody can. RIP

Will there be least one be ill-advised unfocused attempt at reaching a broader audience? And will that be the only cut I already know? Yes to all, please?
  13. Alex gets the points, for sure. He actually had a clue! I just had his clues, and about a half-bit's worth of a semi-idea about where to start, and all the internet. That last one is a really useful toy if you know how to play it... Hell, I'll give alex 50% of my points and you the other half because you guys actually have gone here/there, to this music that I can feel and get in the macro, but you guys, y'all done been to the house, got some milk out the icebox, ate a sandwich, and used the bathroom to clean up afterwards, leaving no unpleasant vestige of your visit therein, in the air or on the towels. And then went out and talked on the porch for a while! Much props from me to those who can do that. Props, respect, and love in the cosmic sense.
  14. My daughter-in-law's a vegan...I would be if I had the discipline. Used to... We all like to eat here http://www.spiraldiner.com/ and I love it, just because the food is delicious. If you got flavor, hey, you win, end of story, shut up, let's eat! But I love meat, and don't really care for potatoes at all. I'll take rice or pasta any day, don't even ask me once.
  15. http://www.discogs.com/No-Artist-The-Right-To-Profit-State-And-All-That-Jazz/release/3943847 I'm guessing this is it?
  16. Was it new when you found it? I've seen Booker 'n' Brass on occasion (and that should be heard on both LP & CD, as Belden de-reverbed the CD. Very nice, but very different!), but as I understand it, PJ actually had "commercial expectations" for that one. Structurally Sound on LP...glad i snagged it when I did. Same for The In Between too, that cover deserves to be felt in LP form, even moreso than the Kenton/Barton album. Music is music, but records is records, ya' know?
  17. Is this it? http://www.allmusic.com/album/circle-recordings-mw0000477896 Hope so, I jsut one-clicked it...
  18. Ah, "The Bebop Waltz". Damn, you're good! What the ears don't remember, logic fills in. And vice-versa. On really good days, both, but some days are better than others.
  19. A Herbie Nichols piece? Which one, i couldn't tell you right off hand.
  20. Did it have all the sfuff inside and in good shape? That alone would make it worth a few scratches, imo.
