  1. Rangers sign Matt Harrison to a five year extension, which means that the now have Darvish, Harrison, Holland, and Ogando (none of them older than 28) all under club control for at least four more years. There are worse places to be with your rotation...better places too, but all things considered, this is not a bad place to be.
  2. Luther Vandross was a great talent, far more substance and skill there than in any "smooth jazz".
  3. There was The Manhattan Project too. But neither were leader dates.
  4. Not so as to distract from a concert.
  5. Good question. And is there any documentation of the "Shotgun" dance?
  6. whoa...

  8. Dude, if I could have Hamid Drake playing live in my car, I would look for reasons to get lost, just to keep driving. Of course, I'd have to have a van or something, and I'm not a van guy. But maybe I could be if the van came with a live drummer.
  9. Glen Campbell. That guy had skills and knew how Wilson got it done.
  10. Only in America.
  11. Sammy might have been a clown, but he was a clown with crazymad skills, especially at tapping. It took me a looooong time to appreciate just how deep his skills really were, which of course does not alter his clowndom. But he's a clown for whom I now have immense respect.
  12. Just not that Love guy. Anybody but him.
  13. James Clay Walter Pidgeon Skeeter Davis
  14. Maybe time to turn the reins over to Carl.
  15. Finally getting to this one...what's the background on the session? Sounds to me like Lasha hardly plays on his own date, that they (mostly) set him up to play the melodies and give everybody else solo space. Was that Lasha's own idea or the producer's? What there is of him on here is very good indeed...I just wish there was more.
  16. Where's Buzz Aldrin in all this?
  17. Bill Hands Rich Hand The Four Aces
  18. Al Cohn on second tenor? Ernie Royal sitting to Thad's left? Not sure about Pepper Adams. I was wondering if maybe it was Danny Bank or Sol Schillinger. Was Gene Allen NY or LA? The YouTube comments mention that it was the Elliot Lawrence CBS orchestra, so...whatever. Oh, that lead alto player looks like a fullback or something.
  19. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/card-corner-1972-topps-bob-veale/ So,um uh-er-ah, yeah, that's what I'm gonna be starting to be doing, wearing a windbreaker under my jersey to sweat off a few extra winter pounds. Healthy AND retro-chic!
  20. Bob Bailey, bid he catch the always-coldness from Bob Veale, or vice-versa?
  21. Seems like Bob Veale was cold more often than not!
  22. Tony! Toni! Toné! Tone Loc Tonette Thomas (RIP)
  23. DL for me, please.
  24. The windbreaker-under-uniform look was not unprecedented. Etc. Mostly pitchers, but the occasional high leprechaun made it in as well: What is this I don't even know
