Not John Klemmer, then?

So...a 50 game suspension for a kid who tests positive for pot in the off-season? http://www.lonestarball.com/2013/1/9/3857602/astros-prospect-jonathan-singleton-suspended-50-games Second offense, and yeah, you know the rules, but still...not sure if either sanity or consistency is at work here?

I kinda started feeling the same way as the season went on myself...I mean, this is one raggedy-ass, undisciplined, unfocused, bunch of football grifters, guys who will either win or lose a game through some goofy-ass collaborative contrivance between somebody's ineptness and somebody else's being in the right place at just the right time to take advantage of it. And in the middle of it all is Romo, the guy who, along with Demarcus Ware, maintains the only thing resembling consistency and forward momentum on this team. When they got on that little hot streak, I was wondering if maybe they had back-loaded all their bad luck and were set to go on a run of good luck that would carry them into the playoffs. But no. Romo's a great guy, a real talent, but he's cursed, man. He's one of those guys who will at some point - inevitably the worst possible point - find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. It looked like he was over it this year, but no, last game of season, PLOP, and there it was all over again. Unlike years past, when I've sorta relished the PLOP-ing, I felt a little bad this year, because the team had formed this weird "underdog" mentality with all the injuries on top of their basic lack of discipline, and they became some weird NFL version of The Dead End Kids. In the end, though, it was just one more year of Jerry Jones' unwillingness to institute a culture of discipline and fear (Jimmy Johnson was right) for jobs playing out in a little more interesting way than usual. So....fuck that. As long as Jerry Jones is in charge, I can't find it in me to root for the home team. The irony is that I used to feel the same way about the Landry-Murchison combo too, and Jerry "pick of the litter" Jones was the one who got me to come around (and Jimmy Johnson really sealed the deal, him and his hairspray-head crazy ass). But then he fucked that up and has only made it worse since. So...oh well!

The thing that seems really "eccentric" to me is at the end of his chorus, when he brings the springs of the reverb into play. I don't know I've ever heard that happen as instigated from the guitar as opposed to kicking the amp or something.

Jerry Jones is a liar. Among other things...

I don't really know Ernest Ranglin...any chance in hell that it's him? Truly, truly grasping at straws...

I'd like to see a Hall Of Really Good...Vada Pinson would be my poster-man. What will they do for a ceremony this summer?

Might turn out to be a great one.

Sexiest Album Cover? At YOUR age? My kind of guy!

fwiw...Marvin Cabell did a solo album several decades ago that was already aiming in the smooth/R&B direction pretty strongly. He still sounded like Marvin Cabell, though, sounded great, I love that album. As for the "variety" thing, hey, you know how it is if you want to "stay local" and make a living as a musician, especially someplace where there's not a really jumping local jazz-club thing going on...which is almost anywhere these days. You get a "presentation" together so you can play whatever gigs are out there. No idea if this actually is the same guy (or what shape his chops are in now), but that listing alone would not be discouraging in and of itself, I'd say.

Jeez, dude, just how old ARE you now, anyway?

Call direct- 203-327-7111 I've never had a call unanswered and/or unreturned. Or an issue unresolved. Consider also the possibility that if your set received this type of damage during the storm, others probably did as well, and that yours is not the only complaint to be resolved. In other words, they might have a buttload full of calls and emails to return right now. But they'll get to yours, and they will make it right. I can guarantee that as much as I can guarantee anything that I can't actually guarantee, if you know what I mean.

And even at that, it just takes one country who doesn't subscribe to any of the new/existing copyright protection laws and one person who knows how to "set up shop" there on paper, and BOOM! All gone. That's the downside of this for the companies. The upside is that, really, who's going to pay for this stuff now? Scorched earth, baby! Oh,wait a sec. I forgot - some people still buy CDs of needle-drops and rips just to have an "object". Never mind, start scouring the globe, ye bootleggers. A new home awaits somewhere over the horizon!

What's funny is how by issuing this stuff to the public, even in such a dramatically limited number as the Dylan stuff, or only as downloads as with the Motown stuff, it's all but a guarantee that the material will now be circulated amongst those who really want to hear it in perpetuity. So although this might (and I stress, might) prevent the Jordi Pudols of the world from finding something to do with an unreleased George Bohannon Workshop Jazz session in terms of product, well hey, I would suspect that said Bohannon material is probably already available to anybody who wants to hear it on some (or more) file-sharing service/torrent/site/whatever. Same only more so with the Dylan material - I'd be willing to wager somebody's-other-than-mine proverbial left nut that there's a helluva lot more than 100 "copies" of that material out there right now - and counting! So...protection? Really? Then again, maybe peoples have plans to license all this stuff for motion pictures, commercials, ringtones, etc. In that case (as if), then ok, your assets are now covered. But otherwise, good luck on all that!

That would be a trip, wouldn't it? I'll look into it. Wow...Indianapolis! If Marvin Cabell is up for the gig (in terms of time, chops, interest, and money) and if there's interest on the production end, definitely put this on Kickstarter or whatever it is. I'd be contributing anyway, but I'm a significantly more incentivized contributor if the chance to hear Marvin Cabell playing John Patton tunes is on the table!

Darius Jones "Man'ish Boy (A Raw & Beautiful Thing)"
JSngry replied to sonnymax's topic in New Releases
What I really liked about his playing was that nothing sounded careless in terms of pitch and fingers. I've really, really come to dislike bluffing in that regard, and it's really easy to bluff in that regard on saxophone, especially on alto. And sometimes strength of identity gets it over, for a little while, anyway. But this guy, everything I heard sounded fully intentional. AND it had identity. Win-win afaic. -
Yes, you are correct. I wonder if all the MVM material was "second hand" like that, or if they also did original productions.

And while I'm asking the I don't know what that means question, I've been meaning to ask Whitney Balliett since 1971 or so wtf does "sunny drybones" mean anyway? Yeah, I know you're dead, Balliett, and that means you got might the dry bones your ownself by this point, sunny or otherwise, but you still gotta answer, because somebody's gotta be the voice of reason, just as Willis Conover gotta was be the voice of america.
