Not my intent.... I think the USPS gets a bad rap sometimes. I hope your Rollins shows up eventually. One more time - don't abandon all hope until you check the Dead Letter Office. Go to your post office and ask them for the number, it's in Georgia somewhere, and stuff that shows as having been delivered but actually wasn't can end up there. -
Well, nobody's talking "crap" and nobody's talking "bad jazz", unless some absolutist criterion of presentation by definition affecting content is in play, in which case, let me off that train so I can get on one that actuality moves... What does "beget" something is that creatively executed popularly oriented jazz does create an overall "jazz environment" that makes it easier for anybody who is so-inclined (always a minority, but always out there) to move about and experiment, and maybe actually find some stuff that sticks. I've been seeing that since 1971. What I don't see happening now is the popularly oriented jazz (either the "preservationist" or the "smooth" variety) having any real creative execution at either inception, production, or presentation. So rather than having a bunch of lakes connected by creeks, you got a butch of stock ponds, artificially kept alive & existing only to serve that which is already there to be served. You can skin in a lake. But you can't in a stock pond.

Like repeatedly returning to a website that is perpetually "Under Construction" year after year after year, this is the type of humor for which the internet was made!

Not gonna be for everybody here, maybe not even most. And PC speakers probably won't reveal the full detail for the full impact. Stipulated. Otherwise...there be some layers here. Lot and lots of layers. I like me some layers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSujMji32zk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEpVDz-4KFI Somebody gave me a copy as a burn. I'm gonna buy a real copy. Because those layers...yeah...those layers. I keep hearing Miles.

Would Dizzy - or Dameron - have been writing for JD as early as 1942? I know there was some interaction between them, just not sure if it was that early. not sure whether that means cool lounge gigs, or slightly dodgy bop ones You know, I've been doing them for a while now, & I'm still not sure myself...it kinda varies from night to night and often hinges on who stays how sober for how long ...

Library of Congress gets a mile of music from Universal

Again, a nice moral argument, and one with which I fully concur. But - where is the legal argument that "They should stream it ALL, not just the remainders of what Universal figures it can't sell on iTunes."? I'd like to think that there is one, but I'm thinking that as of now, there isn't. If I'm wrong, I'll be very happy, I assure you! -
Yeah, that's right. Too many lounge gigs lately, not enough bebop (not that there's that much difference anymore, at least in these parts...)...those guys like to play "Four" as a background riff to TNOY"....and it works well enough. But you are absolutely correct about the proper "Four " changes.

The trip is still in the hypothetical stage, but flying into the nearest hub & then renting a car would probably be the plan. Duration would probably be 5-7 days. Old road dog that I am, a 2-3 hour drive to anywhere is pretty much a trip to the store and back afaic, so it's nice to hear about all those other surrounding areas/attractions. LTB loves outdoors, lakes and nature, I'm an indoors guy myself, so it sounds like we can both have a pretty good time doing this trip. Again, thanks for all the input, and keep it comin', please!

That's a nice moral argument, but can you make a parallel legal one? -
The harmonic math of the first part is largely that of the first part of the A-section to "The Nearness Of You". The end is a verbatim(?) quote of the tag/coda to "Groovin' High", which is also the same as the last phrase to "If You Could See Me Now", although which one of those really came first, I don't know. Don't think you can male that estimation just on recording dates/ Oh, and fwiw - it's likely an Eddie Vinson tune, not a Miles one.

I'm tempted to check this one out, strictly for Bob Freedman. That man is a writer! If you've never heard the album him & Grady Tate did together, check it out. It won't be to everybody's tastes, but by no definition, even an expanded one, can it be called "safe", traditional", or "predictable". "Arresting", however, fits just fine. He also did a really wack album on Cobblestone that was a pretty bold amalgamation of modern classical w/jazz soloing. Not sure I really "liked" that one all that much, but oh well about that. It was still pretty bold stuff. On a more "mainstream" level, he's also the guy who did the charts for Wynton's Hot House Flowers. My feelings about Wynton are well known, but this is an album I still listen to, so wonderful are Freedman's arrangements. No writer of stock-quality arrangements he!

Users of the USPS - always check the Dead Letter Office in Georgia before abandoning all hope! -
I'll take Jack Wilson's electric harpsichord w/Gerald Wilson on Pacific Jazz because it fits.
-
I'm assuming that Bob Freedman also wrote the charts? He's one of the more interesting (and less well-documented) writers out there...
