  1. Also not to be confused with IHOP.
  2. http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:hxfixqrgldde NHOP (not to be confused with IHOP) & one William Shiopffe. 4/26/62, club date. Bud is loose and focused at the same time, which means fun for all. I'd have to say that it's the one I'd take from the early 60s phase if I was only taking one, if only because three's a bit of true lightheartedness in it, a quality that agreed well with Bud when Bud agreed with it.

  4. Bottom line - Chuck Brown grooves like a mofo. Always has, always will. Anything else is seriously overthinking it.
  5. I think this story highlights how much of a disconnect can exist between world-class musicians and their real-world practical knowledge. Many people naively think that their regular insurance covers stuff like instruments and collections. It doesn't. Somebody should have told her this long ago, and, yeah, at some point she should have looked into it herself, because whenever you leave home shit can definitely happen. And no, there's no blaming the victim here. She did nothing to bring this on herself. But she was naive. It's a sad story, but a lesson for all.
  6. Is thre some Detroit Techno in the mix here?

  8. Other than his records?
  9. Shrug away, it might even become your dance, if it hasn't already.
  10. Thank you sir!
  11. You know who really protests too much? Motherfuckers (plural) who know something but don't get it. that's who. Otherwise, why be bothered about bullshit like "hype" and whatever it ultimately means (less than nothing), and oh by the way, who exactly is "crying" about "a lack of a national audience"? I for one don't give a fuck about a "national audience" for anything. We got an "industry" to worry about that, let them go buggin' about it. People who get it get it. Those who don't think it matters one way or the other if they don't.
  12. I think you got Wayne Bennett for two full choruses there, in which case, you got something to pay extra attention to.
  13. No....I just meant that "coat and tie" used to be regular street wear for many people back in the day. Although I gotta tell ya' - wearing a tux to do anything (yeah, anything) in ain't that big a deal after you've done it a few times, and if you get a comfortable one that fits well.
  14. Yeah, that's a good one. Great version of "Love Disease". Phillip Wilson kicks ass.
  15. DOH! Of course it is...
  16. a-HA! "Riverbed" by Zawinul...the Money In The Pocket/Concerto Retitled version used to be played regularly by Bob Stewart on the radio around here...I knew I knew that tune from somewhere! I'm guessing that it the BFT cut comes from this: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:gvfrxq85ldhe but I also notice a version here: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:fcfwxq9gld6e That's a great tune, man. Great tune.
  17. Was #5ever recorded on an album with Pepper Adams? Now I'm wanting to say it's a Duke Pearson tune...is that it?
  18. Actually, very rare & highly sought after bootlegs. So if you don't like what you got, I'm sure you can recoup your investment, if not possibly turn a profit.
  19. Same here, 'cause Grif is usually very readily identifiable, he really had his own sound whereas Grossman was more derivative (Trane early, Newk later). Am also chagrined because there is simply no excuse - I own the damn CD! Well, it's later Griff, the tone is a little "looser" (just a little), and he's not as tightly recorded as usual, so there's more ambient sound surrounding his tone. I confess it was a few bars before I locked onto it. But just a few.
  20. Two Tons Of Fun The Weather Girls Thunderclap Newman
  21. Obscure or not, #5 is one of those tunes that I "know" from the first few notes, it's such a distinctive piece. Which is why not being able to remember the name and go to the shelves and pull it is driving me nuts... I'll be interested in hearing about # 9 . I very much enjoyed it.
  22. I'm hating myself for not knowing the name of the tune on #5... #10 is Junior Cook, then. A private tape, perhaps, courtesy of B.F. Testee? I found # 12: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:gnfwxqr5ld0e Never knew of this album. Will begin looking for it immediately. No comments on #s 9 & 13? Please? I'm still hating myself for not knowing the name of the tune on #5...
