Am I the only one who thinks LEEWAY is boring?

So, are there any recordings of Clifford playing with this Big Skips cat?

So, no goats?

This. So ok. R.I.P.

Well, I was just fixing to say, if he was such an asshole, what difference does it make? And then...

Yeah, I know. But I'm the best me you got.

Dude, you got Otimista, so you already know "Higher". Damn fine song anyways. But trust me 'bout this Claussell thing. For Real.

Co-Collaborator Works Of Monday Michiru Another compilation from Universal Japan, this time focusing (but not limited to) more recent efforts. Not a lot here that's in any way "common", even by Monday standards, in terms of availabilty, and I was able to fill in some holes in my collection (and if I would've known that this was someday coming out, I could've saved a lot of money...). Musically, it's a mixed bag, as some of Monday's guest spots have been friendlier to her doing her thing full-out than others. There's a few pure electronica/J-DancePop that I enjoy the same way I enjoy anything like that - while it's on, and then no longer. That stuf is "for deep fans only", some of it is just damn good pop (her version of Stevie Wonder's "The Real Thing" became an instant favorite when it showed up on the latest Soul Source Productions side a little while back, and it's included here, a is a recent thing w/Jazzanova that has taken a while to get to me but finally is)), some of it is remixes that are damn near perfect examples of that art (Jephte & MAW show strong here), there's a cut from 4 Seasons - "New Beginnings", a collaboration w/Da Lata, and there's one thing that has really, really blown me away. That would be ""Higher (Spiritual Life voc)" a remix by Joe Claussell of a song from Optimista that isn't as much a remix as it is a total remake using some of the orignal parts and bringing in a bunch of new parts (a lot of them live players) on top. The groove is massive, primal, and deep ("spiritual" it indeed is!), the rearranging creative (he does some thing harmonically that are totally unexpected yet still make perfect sense, and by the time it goes into a "Latin dub" groove with a long violin solo weaving in and out, "higher" is exactly how/where I found myself. Again, perhaps not a strong "introduction" disc, but worth the price if you're already a fan and want more. And dammit Dear Friends, if you find that Joe Classell thing in ANY form (it's been on an Japanese EP, some American 12", and god knows where else), do what you gotta do to get it. Yeah, it's that tough!

Getting around to hearing it as we speak, and it's ok. "Spacey" and such, and seemingly willfully "detached", but that's part of the deal going in, so hey. "Lasting value" is probably going to be widely variable, but right now I'm thinkng it's something to put on for some good ambient sound and some passive listening. To win my heart, I need a little less "laboratory", or else so much that the intent becomes the content, but this ain't bad. And just as I write that, a really dark & snakey groove starts up. Yeah, this'll be good for at least a few plays.

Buy one version, find somebody who bought the other, and swap files accordingly.

Well see, that's what I mean. A design should never overwhelm the accessories, and vice-versa.

Truthfully, I think that anybody who writes about music with the feeling that at some level it's "theirs" (as opposed to writing about it coming from a "this is what somebody else does that I like a lot and find meaningful etcetc and here's some talk about it" POV) runs the risk of getting kinda wierd over time. especially in an evironment like Harrison's where you don't have to deal with the music's "sources" on an upclose & personal level except when they come through on tour and stuff and then you're a Great Man and shit. But then when they split, it's you and your little circle of friends having pissing contests and waxing brilliant in such a way that after a while, they become part and parcel of the same mindset, especially as what you're so wrapped up in fades further and further from being "current events". Thing is, all that stuff is over, cats are dead, music has moved on and out (stylistically and geographically and damn near every way) and he' s hanging on to it like it still matters in a way other than one man's history. That's what a lot of old folks do, thinking that if they just...growl hard enough that their view of history will come back to life in the present and their personally glorious visions will become the world's at long last. I thnk the way to avoid getting that way when you get old is to shake yourself up every so often along the way before you get there and it's too late to be shaken w/o risking fatal systemic shock. I hope to god that I don't become one of those type old folks, lost to all but their own insular past. Wish me luck!

Who the hell thought that these colors looked good, when they appeared on my screen, i started to fiddle with the colors on my telly. The colors themselves go together ok, and the uni design by itself is ok, in an old-school kinda way. But not together. My god - not together.

How 'bout the motherfucker's just nuts? Don't mean he's not sharp or nothing. That ain't got nothing to do with it. But you know, you gdt these crotchety fucks, and they get to goin' on some shit that's personally upsetting to them for whatever reason, and next thing you know, they're hard off into Looney Land. Not at all uncommon if you stop to think about it. World's full of people like that. At least Texas is. :g :g

I saw a porno w/Peabo Bryson in it back in the day, and I think he was born in a pawn shoip,

That's an excellent version and a really good cd. Good luck finding a copy though . Where's the smiley for "smiles smugly"? MG Inner City released a licensed version in America that might be easier to find.

Oh shit, I have that collection! That's a good cut from a nice set. Is hould start paying more attention to names with this stuff. Right now, I'm more into just hearing/listening first, and maybe then later finding about names. Pretty much the opposite of how I've appraoched music in the past, but dammit, I just got tired of being such a stats geek all the time, ya' know?
