  1. Practice, practice, and more practice!
  2. What's at the corner of 63rd St. and Cottage Grove Ave, anyway?

Dude, it's a bright-size life we live. Laughter is not optional.
  4. I bought the 45 of that back in the day when I bought records just because I didn't have any. It wore out its welcome so quickly that, unlike more than a few that came home w/me, I have NO idea what the B-side was, nor do I care. A band that can't give you a good B-side ain't to be trusted.
  5. I'd like to have heard thier answers to the question.
  6. You mean the "I love the flower girl" song?
  7. Who's older, Von or Franz? Guess if I want to keep playing forever I should move to Chicago?
  8. Tater sends his love.

    I'm interested.
  10. Where does the commercial usually air? Haven't seen it yet.
  11. Yeah, that's the thing about the Verve stuff, so much soul. Sometimes the chops are down (not as often as the "conventional wisdom" of the past would ahve you think, however), but there's never any lack of feeling. Intense feeling at that.
  12. I've been on a Hastings S&D binge lately , and haven't seen those. But you never know with Hastings. Sometimes the most unlikely stuff will pop up in the most unlikely towns. Found a Dizzy Masters Of Jazz thing in Mount Pleasant last fall. Who'da thunk it? So thanks for the heads-up! I REALLY dug the packaging of that Ember box. That's what I'm looking for myself. But if I find the individual sets, I'll make a note to pick them up and offer them here to any interested parties at cost + postage.
  13. Millie broadcasts from Georgia, I think it is (might even be from her house!) , but her show is heard only in Dallas, on Soul 73, KKDA-AM, 730 on your dial. Anybody who's in the area and digs old-school Soul music is advised to tune in to this station and enjoy the ride. Some people might lauch at her album covers, but back in the day, she was a great singer!
  14. Just make sure you get the pre-WORKTIME stuff. It's readily available, and is pretty darn fine, especially the quartet session w/Kenny Drew & the session w/Monk as a sideman.
  15. A good friend has the Ember box. The packaging was very nice, I thought. Even though I already havve most of the material, if one of those boxes every makes its way into my sights at a reasonable price, I'm grabbing it.
  16. Got it for Christmas back in 1999, and am very happy with it. If you dig Lester, you'll want at least some of the Verve material. If you love Lester, you'll want it all, and this is the place to get it. The interviews are priceless, I think. Packaging is a bit shaky, but that's what Verve was into in those days.
  17. I duuno, sounds like a female voice yodelling. Maybe I wasn't listening right. Now, WHO is/was Roger Glenn? (another peeve about the booklet, not enough/any info on the supporting cast). I probably sound like I'm disappointed somewhat in this disc, but I'm not, no way!
  18. Tater. The boy's name was Tater.
  19. ...yes, but he's not a lesbian! Yet he craves the same thing they do. Curious creatures, these humans are...
  20. In case you're ever going to do a , you should remember that it's "Kessel", not "Kessell". Couldn't resist that one. Sorry Gramps , but I'm of the age where Barney Goggle was pretty much gone, replaced on the daily basis by Snuffy Smith. Fitty Pointz if you can recall Mr. & Mrs. Smith's infant son's name without Goggling!
