  1. The 60s thru the mid-70s are pretty devoid of material. Warne was doing very next to no recording then (he was playing some, just not recording). The "comeback" began slowly, probably first w/an association w/Clare Fischer (THESAURUS contains one of Warne's most sublime solos, on "Lennie's Pennies"), then on to Supersax, and finally ALL MUSIC, and the tours w/Konitz (Lon's recs of the Storyvilles is deed on).
  2. And it goes w/o saying - ALL MUSIC.
  3. I just picked this one up as well as Apogee and am enjoying them both muchly. Dude, the way Warne levitates when he reenters on "The More I See You" give me goosebumps just thinking about it. The man was one of the chosen ones, simple as that.
  4. On Wave. In-freakin'-credible.

  6. Not on CD, probably never will be. There's a 2nd volume as well.
  7. Not yet on CD.
  8. Thanks, Chuck. A bootleg of a bootleg, eh? Burn with a clear conscience!
  9. You're mixing something up with couw's favorite trumpeter. Of course - it's "Decoder". DOH! (and thanks, Joe. That means a lot to me as well.)
  10. I can't second that strongly enough. Yeah, that's the one. Some Moers sides have made it to CD. Not sure about this one. They have a website, Moers does, or did at one time.
  11. I'm very late to this party, but I finally picked up a copy last week, and have given it more than a few listens since. I DIG IT!!!!!! All the grooves are true, but my favorite compositions are "Life Wish", "Decoy" & "You Don't Want To Do That", with that SteelyDanSick bridge. Who the fuck came up with that? The whole thing was recorded exquisitely, but much particular love for the way that Randy's cymbals were captured. I'm a geek for cymbal sounds, and it's not that often that I've heard great sounding cymbals recorded great. Of course, it helps to have somebody playing them who knows how to make them sound great. I really dig it when a record is "familiar" and "unpredictable" at the same time, and that's what this one is. I know what's going to happen, but I don't know how it's going to happen, and that keeps me listening, it keeps me smiling, and it keeps me coming back for more, because I like smiling (well, on the inside, anyway, which is where it counts ). Definitely one that's going to be good for the long haul, that's for sure. I know it's been said here many times before, but let me say it again - you guys got a winner here!
  12. Has this material been issued before, and if so, where? Personnel seems less than accurate. Seems that I hear Illinois Jacquet on one tune, and an uncerdited bari player on another, Does anybody have correct personnel? This disc is from the infamous Disconforme combine. Is this same material currently available from a more legitimate label? Is there any chance at all that video footage survives of any of this stuff? Pretty amazing stuff, with some interestingly peculiar lineups ( SEE HERE FOR DETAILS ). To say that sparks fly puts it more than too mildly. And to hear 1958 Prez & Bean trading fours on a blues... As always, thanks in advance.
  13. A young Red Allen?
  14. That one was leased from Timeless, and may still be available as such. I think Blakey did several sessions for Timeless, not all of which had U.S. release. Seems as if I remember one that was a bigband, or near bigband, date, recorded live(?). And didn't the later (last?) Messengers do a thing or two for Black Saint/Soul Note?
  15. Some others not yet mentioned: The Roulette material from the mid-70s. Not "essential" by a long shot, but not bad either, not at all. Then there's the Argo album, which is not as good as it could have been, but still good enough. And don't forget about RITUAL on Pacific Jazz. That one's pretty nice.
  16. I said just about all I have to (seriously) say about Kenny G HERE. (to those who click, apologies in advance for the difficulat color scheme. weren't my call).
  17. Oh HELL yes! How about BITTERSUITE IN THE OZONE? "Message To The Music Business" inDEED!
  18. I see the seeds being planted - his aborted "can we talk frankly/Boy King" thing w/Chris, and Junior's ramblings on about "hothouse flower" and "not varsity material". Junior's getting loopy, and him & Feech were apparently tight in the old dyas, so I dunno. If I were a writer and had a pair of oldtimers, one gonzo and the other getting senile, both of them resentful, that's where I'd go with it. But I'm not a writer, so who knows? Still, I got treefitty riding on this, so I'm staying tuned!
  19. Oh no, I should have ordered this one too! The sound samples are QUITE encouraging!
