    Orrin Evans

    How much has he evolved? My reactions to the first few were more or less "interesting but not really compelling" and I stopped caring. But that was a while back.
  2. One circle of the Venn would be Prime Time. The other would be James Chance/White. Blood was the intersection, in terms of audiences here. A very interesting time!
  3. I bought the Rough Trade LP when it came out. The buzz was hot and there was no indication that American labels were going to put it out. The whole "No Wave" scene was pretty fringey to begin with, and Ulmer was in on it pretty much because he was there, if you know what I mean. Barriers were being disregarded, Venn Diagrams were expanding, interesting possibilities were beginning to form. The Rough Trade mix is still my preferred, have the punch and jab of it's time. But it's a good record in any mix
  4. Do they still have fern bars?
  5. Alamac! The label of heroes!!!
  6. Don't overlook Big Top Pee Wee. It's nowhere the epic that Big Adventure is, but it does create it's own zone and works within it quite nicely.
  7. Sugar Macarios - Peekin'
  8. His 1987 Blue Note record is quite accessible and quite perfect, imo! https://www.discogs.com/release/4842203-James-Blood-Ulmer-America-Do-You-Remember-The-Love
  9. We're on fixed incomes now, so my paranoia is getting me to where I'm not indulging in non-essential record purchases unless some REALLY big bargains show up. And this place has them! HutchFan, thanks for shining the light on this place. Never heard of the before, but you can't unsee it, can you;
  10. Daedalus books used to be like. Some other place too, I forget the name. But I see a lot of the same type stuff. Fortunately, I most of it now. But most is not all...Like Roy Eldridge, The Nifty Cat with Budd Johnson, did not have a legit CD on it and BAM there it was tonight in the Under $5 filter. I was relieved that their comparable Modern Classical seemed pretty weak. Thank God!
  11. Yeah, sure. They gonna die on time just like everybody else. LOL.
  12. That's one of those places where if you have a lot of time and you know your labels to know what's what, you can make some worthy additions for under $5.00/disc. ESPECIALLY if your collection is fairly settled and you're just looking to fill in some holes. OR if your collection has a lot of holes and you're ok with older CD versions, cheap.
