  1. Seinfeld!
  2. The passage of time seems to be shifting towards the, yeah, Buddy was intense sometimes (LOL @ sometimes), but that one guy in particular poked the bear and he knew better side of things. Truthfully, I don't care. His band, his rules. Some people handled, some didn't. You could always quit, or be fired, or just hang in there. His tenor players all seemed to hang around.
  3. I say that in the business sense. She's kept the name very much alive as a drumming icon that appeals across genres. Me, I like to look at him as more than that, but there's no money there, I'm sure!
  4. Nerves, probably. Cathy Rich has proven to be a very effective manager of her dad's legacy.
  5. Sue Raney has serious skills. She's one of those singers who makes everything sound easy when in fact what and how she sings is anything but easy. You know, she comes off as all sunny and bright and non-threatening, but really listening to her is like DAMN, that woman is dealing! I also noticed that that site had a lot of the Audiophile label, which had a lot of records by really good singers who were jazz-adjacent, at the least. Being on a fixed income these days, I resisted the temptation to load up, but if anybody likes that sort of thing, hey, carpe diem.
  6. That Philadelphia site is chock full of jazz records by female vocalists who do their damnedest to make alluring cover photos. How good they actually sing. I couldn't tell. Fortunately there were also a buttload of Sue Rainey sides. Known quantity on all counts!
  7. Yep. And I don't think she was forced into it. She actually made some 45s, one with Kim Foley producing!
  8. If memory serves, Buddy formed his band in Vegas and broke them and the new book there. Also, Harry James fronted Buddy the money to get that band started. He too was based in Vegas. I believe he made records with his Vegas bands, covering several decades.
  9. Pepper did play with Buddy Rich and appeared on a PJ record.
  10. That picture makes me sad.
  11. That City Connect thing has had some...awkward outcomes. The Rangers had a new creature and an alien alphabetical character created for them. I wonder when the Colt .45 jersey will be resurrected for the Astros? Houston used to be known as The Murder Capitol Of America!!! That's Bob Aspromonte, right?
  12. Yeah, that's 80:00, not 80:02. What does the time show in WMP or something similar that can give you a seconds reading? Now what I am wondering is if all the CDs are pressed the same, why do those extra two seconds show up on some players and not others? Or are/do they? Clifford, check the play side of your copy. The first one I got appeared to be totally blank and had something etched(?)on a small section. At this point, it seems that there should be a simple explanation. This is not a musical issue, it's a data issue, right? So...code. Somewhere Right? Oh, on my ripped/burned 2 CD set. I can hear the bass quite nicely on some cuts, hardly at all on others.
  13. I also maybe recall Carl Fontana being in Vegas for a while, actually leading a working jazz group?
  14. Base MacRickly - Little Poopdog, It's Bedtime
  15. James Moody did a stint in Vegas, as did Red Rodney. Don Menza was on faculty at one of the colleges there. And Louis Bellson's Thunderbird record on impulse! Used a band that he was leading in Vegas, iirc.
  16. How is that Jackie Paris?
  17. Do you have the Beverly Jenkins and Oscar Brown records? I still regret passing on the Jackie Paris side a few decades ago. Haven't seen it since ..
  18. So...why is it called Fishtown? Did it used to be underwater or something?
  19. Again, "Split" makes more sense than "Spirit", imo.
  20. It's not a craft beer. It is what is is and it do what it do. And it do it really well! Same as it ever was!
  21. A little bit to my surprise, this is a really good record.
