  1. Ringo & Buck want to see you in the office...
  2. Thus why Linda Ronstadt never will be a "jazz singer". Her rhythm is "stuff". Which is ok,it just is what it is
  3. Not according to them!!! LOL!!!!!!!!! Species fluidity, the Wuhan Bear!!!!
  4. Retirement is wonderful, congrats! But leave room for pie! Or even better, cobbler!!!!

  6. What kind of cake are you having?
  7. There's also that whole Robert Glasper thing going on. Kinda ducked out on that, but it's still going on.
  8. Just found out that it's Emily Jones' birthday today! Away from the Rangers 4-5 years, coming bach this year and her and Mike Maddox are the ONLY familiar faces on the TV. And Maddox has been gone for a while. So Happy Birthday, Emily! Stay alert!
  9. Gimme a second, I came across a Roscoe Mitchell quote this morning that opens all that all up! How about a non-jazz record with bits of Wayne Shorter?
  10. Hints placed for early Christmas shopping!
  11. Did you know that today is Jerry's birthday?!?!?!
  12. Esperanza Spaulding, sorta-kinda, on all points? Only one universe, yes. But how many universes are there in an/the omniverse?
  13. As long as your musical universe doesn't become conflated to THE musical universe, no harm, no foul. Honestly, today at least as often as not it seems to me that "jazz" is used as a shakedown racket or a bait and switch operation, like they sell you a dictionary that has all of the letters but none of the words, but if you try to shop elsewhere you run the risk of getting mugged in the alley or something. So...what makes a jazz singer? Apparently just being labeled one.
  14. And at one time A Blue Note Recording Artist!!!
  15. Ok, very much liking the obtainment of Austin Hedges, and liking this description of him even more: Hedges, who turns 31 later this month, is on a one year, $5 million deal with the Pirates. He is considered an elite defensive catcher, and he couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat. with Heim out for however much longer...a good framer behind the plate is crucial, imo, and we do not have that now w/o Heim. This stat says it all (if it is in fact accurate): Catchers with 500 innings caught Heim ranks 3rd in Fangraphs Defensive Metric and Hedges 2nd. In Framing Runs Heim ranks 3rd and Hedges 1st. And...supposedly this guy is an adept bunter. That's one thing I've missed seeing on this team, the well-placed bunt when needed.

    Write-offs for Quincy Jones?
  17. I would listen to the case that as the decades have passed that the real-time connections between "jazz" and the GAS (as it has come to be branded) have become tenuous at best, often illusory, and, too-often, opportunistically deceptive, if not deceitful. Repertoire is simply means to an end. Simply engaging a repertoire as being the end itself is... I don't know... is "stupid" too strong a word? Or not strong enough?
  18. Just that there is an entire other realm of "jazz singing", hell, "jazz" period, that has little if any need to be Great American Songbook in nature. Has been for quite a while now, actually. Not better or worse, but definitely different and definitely real.
  19. "Seager should be back" is a hope, not a claim...
  20. It's ok, probably better than circumstances should have allowed, but hardly a jaw-dropper in any regard. Imo.
  21. Precisely!!!!! Another birthday boy *and still dead!!!)
  22. Injuries... Seager should be back, which is big. Heim might not be, or be back at less than 100%, which is also big. Jung shows signs of having been figured out way more lately, he chases way too easily. And the starters are a mess. Otoh, watching Bochy has been a joy. First Ranger manager since Ron Washington that seems to be getting the team to play up to their fuller potential. But still some work to be done there too.
  23. Also with a birthday today (and still alive!)
