  1. Believe it or not, the Jimmy Dorsey one is just a little spunky! But that Herman one, that's the one to have if you're only having one. Check out the band: https://www.discogs.com/master/482964-Members-Of-The-Woody-Herman-Orchestra-Tribute-To-Woody-Herman Stealth Eddie Costa, a.o. Those things have been packaged a gabzillion different ways, and only sometimes by Crown.
  2. I don't think that any of these are hardcore "must have", but lord have mercy, if anything looks like you'd like it, cape diem. It's all of a very consistent, high quality. Theres a JJ record with Joe that's damn near, " must have", but I forget what label it was on. Also on Landmark, Jimmy Heath's A Time and a Place, a session from his Cobblestone early Muse days that is a total delight.
  3. Very, yes. Some are better than others, but none are less than good. And the Woody Herman record is pretty damn excellent, imo.
  4. Pre-ordered as well. gotta love that $20.00 pre-order discount!

  6. Enrico Merlin is the guy who really got inside the real-time systems of that music. I thought that his name was a pseudonym for Bob Belden, but when I asked Bob about that, he assured me that Enrico Merlin was a real person named Enrico Merlin, and it turns out that he was/is And Bob totally vouched for the veracity of his insights. As far as I'm concerned, he must have some deep inside knowledge of how that band worked, because it's very inside shit, but it stands up under scrutiny, if you ask me
  7. In The Tube - 23 Then 22 (and then something else for a while)
  8. That Tingen book is on the money far more often that not, imo.
  9. Circuit City left a gap that has yet to be filled
  10. I wonder if the movie's any good? The music is.
  11. I watched this before bedtime last night, and was delighted far more often than not. A deep, sound sleep ensued once begun.
  12. Jeanetta Mae Tile - Drink It Like The Honeybear Do
  13. Caw-Caw Cunningham - Trash Cans For Breakfast, Foam for Dessert
  14. Danny Ray the Celibate - DON'T Fuck with Danny Ray!!!
  15. Best Buy sells vinyl, so they know what's desirable to today's well-attuned ears.
  16. Not at Best Buy.
  17. Other than one Malaby solo where he really gets going, this seems a little "set" to me. Then again, this is the type of music I "know" better than any other, having played it more than any other. so maybe it's just that I don't get "surprised" by it as much as other musics (and really, it's not only jazz where "the sound of surprise" matters). But anyway, yeah, nice enough, but one and done for me.
  18. It did when everything was all black and then more aller black.
  19. Sugar is the least of the batch, imo, at least as a record. All that reverb left unfilled.
  20. Is the chrome look back in style these days?
  21. If you wanna be hardass and/or myopic about it, Stanley Turrentine singlehandedly justifies the existence of CTI.
  22. Yeah, I get that he was different. That's kinda the point.
  23. Our library takes donations and then sells them at library sales. I try to always go because there's other people out there who are doing the same thing. I never go away empty-handed, which is kinda self-defeating, but oh well....
  24. That's been mine, too, and for several decades. But now, finally, I'm kinda getting tired of having stuff in boxes and not on shelves. And I'm not really wanting to buy more shelving and then try to find a wall to put it on (because there's not any of that left). So...I'm not going to listen to everything I have "one more time" before I die, even if I live another 20+ years. I am going to keep getting new stuff in, becuswe I like to find new stuff I hadn't know before, So...some shit's gotta go, eventually. The good news is that I got local buddies who are happy to take a lot of it. And I just donate a lot to the library. So, nothing goes to waste. But I be a liar if I said that this getting rid of stuff is coming easy to me. It ain't!
