  6. .ore than a little late seeing this...holy shit.
  7. High and impaired are not really the same thing, although they quite often exist at the same time, if not always to the same extent, one to the other. Besides, half the time is just that - half the time.
  8. Always pretty good, sometimes very good. Billy Bang's contributions to the the ensemble sound (where they are) are significant.

  11. It's a wonderfully entertaining film. That band/show was TIGHT.
  12. "Tour" doc. Something about they got actual tour footage that for some reason Prince wasn't happy with, so the refilmed the whole thing at his Paisley Park soundstage.

  19. What? Did you make an album of birthday songs from around the world, like Stan Kenton did of national anthems?
  20. I'm like, ok, the assumption is that the best takes were released, right? And to me, those tracks do not encourage me to be curious about what else might have happened that day. Willing to be wrong about that, but right now, not a priority.
  21. I like the horse. Horses are wonderful creatures. eyes on the side of their head, but still able to look straight ahead.
  22. Not a priority for me.
  23. I listened to a disc a day, something like that. It's intense enough to where I enjoyed letting it sink in before moving on...but also intense enough that I looked forward to coming back for more once it did. Like a good meal, or a good, uh...encounter.... But that's just me.
  24. Marchel Ivery was in Paris for his Army stint and saw Bud more than once. He was also present for the Olympia concert of Miles & Trane. Marchel is no longer with us, unfortunately. But he passed the stories and images along. One striking thing he said was that Donald Byrd figured out that when Bud was in a stupor of some sort, he could bring Bud out of it by playing like Fats Navarro. That would seem to trigger something in Bud to get him back in from wherever he was.
