  1. Hello Tommy! - Kiddie-Kiddie Pop-Pop: The Best of Hello Tommy! NET's answer to The Monkees.
  2. Part of the Search and Ten Years Hence are at least every bit as interesting for me.
  3. How about that 1976.
  4. The band is too often too big for the orchestrations, the takes are too long. and the ensemble lacks a distinct color/personality. It reminds me of a "lab band" except with real people doing the playing, not lab rats. None of which is what I take delight in about damn near every other Carla Bley record. Go figure. I will say that Lew Soloff & Gary Valente are doin' the do (just doin' it to).
  5. I daresay you're in the majority on that one, at least from people who heard it in real time. It took me a good 5-6 years for the cloud to even begin to lift, and that was only because I walked into a party where it was being played really loud on a really good hi-fi (or "system" as we used to call them back in those gentler, higher times). Hearing all the percussion clearly and starting to here the studio constructions (namely the loops), that was like OHHHHHHH....and then it was a matter of listening to the middle of the music instead of the top and/or bottom. Of course, my source before actually getting the LP was a truck-stop bootleg 8-Track, so maybe I was starting at a natural disadvantage. Anyway, once the cloud lifted, the thing came into focus, and still continues to reveal it's delights. Especially those sleigh bells. EVERYTHING sounds better with sleigh bells. Sleigh bells and handclaps, of which this one also has plenty!
  6. Hey Larry, can you loan me $100.00?
  7. IMO, that is a superior record, and against any number of odds.
  8. This is a GREAT record. But look at the rhythm section, in terms of both individual quality and collective familiarity. This is not a soloist with a pickup rhythm section. This is an ongoing partnership, It sounds like a real group. I do miss an extra horn, but only on the heads, for ensemble color.
  9. Lapritha Widdows - Let Me Pretend To Be Beautiful
  10. Big Fun actually seemed "old fashioned" to me when it was released. Get Up With It certainly did not!!! In Concert was after OTC and before GUWI.
  11. There is indeed. But I have to think about doing it before I go ahead and do it. It seems like in that day, a lot of people just did it without thinking, as part of their everyday apparel?

  19. Am I correct in calling out both Alberto Socarras and Wayman Carver as the two flautists on display?
