  1. Oh yeah, RCA took over Pablo's distribution really early on. They did the same for Flying Dutchman also.
  2. As Miles said in some form or fashion, don't blame the song/it ain't the song's fault, etc. Any song/composition has the potential to be boring. And so many players go ahead and make them so!
  3. and two marvelous Lester Bowie records.
  4. I keep extras on hand to feed the cats. Keeps them away from the main ones.

Keep in mind that "they" said the same type of things about Lester Young. I'd not read too much into it.
  6. No brakes on this Trane.
  7. Muse
  8. Miss Barbara Clippers - Maestro, A Little Off The Top, Please (& This Time in 3/4 Time) Barbara Clippers created quite a buzz in her day, and not just for her outfits!
  9. Dr. William Scholl Anthony Zinno Paddington Bear
  10. I like Roots just fine, and welcome a legit CD issue. Is that what this is?
  11. I very much like the OG Pablo covers. It's the OJC iterations that bug me. And don't get me wrong, they did a lot of really good records. But some that were just lackadaisical. OTOH, the way that Granz knew that since Joe Turner was going to make the same record every time out that he would need to vary the personnel every time out in order to allow for even a chance of surprise was very shrewd. I like every Joe Turner record on Pablo because of that.
  12. Too busy? Just the opposite. On those Basie Jam records he's on, he's metronomic, and not in the good way. Beaucoup respect for the guy, and on occasion, actual enjoyment. But a "pocket" drummer, he's usually not.
  13. Why should I have to put up with Joe Pass & Louis Bellson just to get to Lockjaw? In the end, it's not really worth it.
  14. Dave Brubeck himself.
  15. Maybe a little more quantity control, whichever. Nothing sucks, but a fair amount of it, is more or less redundant...at least when all is said and done.

  17. One for each cheek!
  18. Compliment you grocer on their music selection. Because I guantee that somebody will complain, and your compliment will be a counterweight
  19. There ya' go. Add 70s & 80s pressings, and you've got me. Plus, especially in the 70s when records were routinely shared, carried to parties, and were otherwise a form of community property, the noise and clicks occurred on my watch. So I'm not gonna worry about too much of it. But - that's what happens with vinyl, and if you buy a new record to play socially, it's going to happen to your new records too. Gauge your expenditure accordingly.
  20. Slappy,Flappy, & Doodle - Love Songs that Aren't Really Love Songs (But They Are Now!!!!) The highlight here is "Out Behind The Barn", with an anonymous string chart by somebody who's really studied their Gordon Jenkins.
  21. Still a quartet, but I don't miss any additional hors here. By first reaction to that is that between Roland Hanna and (especially) Mel Lewis, they color the quartet in a way that one there's no gaps in the texture to fill. Exquisite!
  22. It is, but still and all, I like Pepper more with at least on other horn, for color in the ensemble. He writes such nice pieces.
  23. His real name was Park.
  24. Buy vinyl, expect vinyl. And don't be surprised when you get it.
