MLB 2021: it’s baseball season!

We were both Post & Jello. My mom cut them out for me even before I liked baseball. Wish I still had them. Post cam back with 3-D cards..late-60s or early 70s. Inside the box this time. Oh yeah, we did the football cards as well! -

Post needs to go back to putting cards on their cereal boxes. -
They should get Grant Stewart to play Don Ellis in the movie!

Pulled this out after falling asleep with my Sun Ra Radio Pandora station on and then waking up a few hours later with the ending of "Images" blaring loud and proud...I though I had been moved to another, better, and stronger world there for a second.

Dickerson French Horn or English Horn?

Hopkins, often but not always. Charles Dickens or Willie Pickens?

Does anybody have the Impulse! LP and if so, have you heard it in quad? Does tha tmean that a Quad mix was made, if so, what are the odds that it still exists and can be turned into a Surround Sound type epic sonographical transmission even?

Oh yeah, Supersonic Jazz as Supersonic Sounds as well...the had a pretty good bunch of Ra items from the Saturn catalog, from all periods. All new covers, but they kept the OG liners and running order, except for the item in question...which still seems a mystery of some sort. Finally seeing the original Saturn covers, yeah, I get it, and those are what we need to keep for this story. With Sun Ra, it's not just the story of the music, but of the whole..."universe" that came with it. But...once seen (and bought), not forgotten! So you get this record home, plop it on and....WHAAAAAAA????? I forget how many they did altogether...more than 10, less than 20, two(?) original/new records, the rest Saturn catalog of different vintages, all repackaged to play into the expanding market, and to make you think it's all going to be "out" Ra. SURPRISE!!! IIRC, I bought Bad & Beautiful and Pathways To Unknown Worlds at the same time, same place, some East Texas mall chain record store...Musicland, maybe...I forget which one I layed first, but...it was discombulating, to put it mildly. I think I was 18-ish, just out of highschool, and I had HEARD about all these records and thought they were all going to be more or less the same, at least a little. Nope! The availability of Saturn records, of Ra records in general...what we have today is nothng like I had in the early 70s before these came out...and they were in print for a quick minute or two, at best. And then it was back to the underground. And the impulse stuff did not last long in the cutout bins, either. I had a buddy who lived in France for a while, had seen the Arkestra there a few times, and had some OG Saturns, including one or two hand lettered ones. He lsot them all in a divorce. I guess you shouldn't marry an Army ;awyer unless you're ready to lose big...

Yeah, that's the one. It shows them advancing in age, dropping off one by one, I think that Jagger was the last one left, which may or may not be how it plays out in real life.

I've always been tempted to think that "free" playing was the logical end-result of Tristano-ism (as I do with George Russel's LCC), but usually don't yield to that temptation. There are those who will push back against that, and they have some valid arguments. All these people we're talking about, they all hung with Crothers while she was living with Tristano, correct? I know she was in kind of a caretaker role at the end, but before that, was he engaged with those players to any degree?

Not until it came over to impulse! So, one way for 10+ years. And then, once changed, never changed back. And the dead wax thing on my impulse! LP, not sure what that is. Does Michael D. Anderson have time for something silly(?) like this, and if so, does he take emails from strangers?

When I started playing pop gigs, Charlie Watts was my role model for onstage demeanor. Didn't always go over well for a horn player, but fuck it, who you gonna listen to, some goofyass coverband leader or Charlie Watts? Very much love him for getting Sonny on Tattoo You. That was a major creduse. The reality is that, just as Ringo had the pocket for The Beatles, Watts had the pocket for the Stones. Like mjazzg, they never meant much to me, not overall, but.. I give them credit for, no matter how much they stole, how much they posed, they always had the balls to do it like it was them doing them. Not everybody can do that. RIP, and the sequence on the Stones in Rock Dreams continues to haunt.

Jimmy Halperin, also, but hasn't he moved away somewhat from the "Tristano" approach?

Drugs or bright sunlight?

Looked at the dead wax on my impulse! LP, and the matrix #s are aligned with the new side order. But...on the new Side 1, there's a "2" in a circle, and there's a "1" in a circle on the other side, the new Side 2. None of my other impulse! Ra LPs have this (not that I've found, yet), so...what's up with THAT? Looking at the sun Ra Bandcamp page, they's stuck with this revised side order, but without any acknowledgement or explanation. No other Saturn LP has issued with this transposed side order...why is that? Ra-obsessives...I'd think this would have been at least noticed/commented on by now?

Ray Charles or Gato Barbieri?

First. Electric or Electronic?

I will say Tina but am WIDE awake on Bubba, thanks to your advocacy over the years! Roy Rogers or Gene Autry?

And now I have made myself dizzy...the impulse! album DID open with "Enlightenment"...the Saturn opened with "Hours After" which is yet another variant...but the Saturn still ends with "Ancient Aethiopia", so, there's that. as opposed to: So the gong theory holds up as album opener/ender, but on a per side program, the gongs are all on one side, be it Side 1 or Side 2. But there's that liner note implied running order...there's either a coded meaning here, a basic lo-budget process QC fail at work every step of the way, or....both? Somebody should have figured this out by now...
