  1. I do too. Best I can tell, he's had personal situations that demand his attentions elsewhere. I do get the occasional personal email from him, last I heard all was well with his health and stuff.
  2. I want that NORAD app. I think Lee might be holed up at a Motel 6.
  3. What was the one of "Black Rock"...something like Hot Exhaust and Chains, something like that, a biker themed package. Clem/Moms hipped me to that one. I wondered/still wonder where the hell all THAT came from, but there it was.
  4. Azamon still holding firm to the By 10 PM....I hope I'm awake then.
  5. Thanks, just pre-ordered. Also see a Georgia ann Muldrow remix of "Clear and Distinct". Got that one too, DL only, but just one track, works for me.
  6. Dexter playing waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy behind the beat (as ooposed to his normal behind the beat) is really a 70s thing for him, and it kept accelerating (sic). By the time the early 80s rolled around...the one time I saw him was in Chicago, 1981, he was over an hour late, came in drenched in sweat, high as fuck, and immediately received a roaring, standing ovation, and proceeded to play beyond beautifully all night. When you talk about "charisma", I saw it in person, and it was SO real. But behind the beat, jeeeeeesus, the way I described it then and now is that he was SO far behind the beat that I kept waiting for him to come up and bite it in the ass, that's how far behind the beat he was. I loved it. I enjoy a good high-wire act, and a great one even more.
  7. You know who would have, in a perfect world, worked SO much better than Jon Faddis on the Atlantic Carnegie Hall - Michael Ray. You still get your Dizzy-isms, you still get your high notes, but you might also get some real music out of it instead of that...sheenyshiny glibbergloss of skweekle-skakkle that he brought to that night. Too bad those words couldn't have collided, New York Hi-Gloss and Philly Underground commune. But there was a Mingus-Gilmore connection, so...but no...
  8. Shafi Hadi is an unsung hero. Perhaps not readily apparent, but over time, yeah, all is revealed. It wsa on either the Mobley or Morgan 50s Mosiacs (Mob;ey, right?) that that really came into focus for me. A real voice, he was.
  9. Coll, thanks! I like to buy stuff on Fridays after work, so this looks like something to do today!
  10. This is a new one for me. Trying to get to the 2nd CD, the previously unissued stuff, but the first one keeps pulling me back in and around.
  11. Thanks for the tips...a lot of these albums are OOP now? Is this going to be a matter of paying the extra bucks, or are there current releases on the market at popular prices?
  12. They're back, for as long as it lasts... https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/19/business/toys-r-us-macys-partnership/index.html
  13. Music to match the food tonight.
  14. Been making the latest in an decades-long of revisiting/expanding my Sun Ra awareness (no sane person tries to do it all at once, unless they were there all along, imo, and i started with cutout impulse!s back in...whenever that was), this time seeing what I can get via Pandora (btw, it looks like thee are different algorithms for "sun Ra" and "Sun Ra & His Arkestra"...the former proved to be the better choice, at least initially), and there keeps coming up a slew of different "Ethipian Jaa" (that's aht I'm calling it, anyway) selections, some of which seem to be part of the Ra collective Subconscious more than other.s. but the one that consistently pulls me in is this one: First things first - is that Duke Ellington on the cover? It is, right? Immediately followed by - what is there in this vein, overall, and how much of it gets into that Ra Venn Diagram like this record does (the artist is Mulatu Astaq)? I know the Ra in Egypt stuff, but this is nothing like that, nor, really, is other Pandora selections of similar orientation. What should I know here? About Mulatu Astaq specifically, or other things in sync with him?
  15. https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/19/politics/roger-wicker-tests-positive-covid/index.html The virus is non-partisan (who knew?!?!?!) and apparently (increasingly?) not particularly interested in how long you think your vaccine is going to last? We should take comfort that "breakthrough" cases will not fuck us up hardly any at all? Even if it means that the virus is staying alive and looking for more evolved ways to do so? This is supposed to make me happy? Can we all stop playing games with this shit NOW, please? Of course not, but I am obligated to ask anyway....
  16. Thread cleaned up of extraneous commentary (mostly my own), please proceed.
  17. Probably notated in 19/8? Might it have been recorded under another name here?
  18. That's a significantly lower price, indeed. But those guys...two unsatisfactory and one godawfulhorrible experience. Right now, I can make up the difference somewhere else, thankfully. Still, that's a significantly lower price. Yeah, i got Prime, so shipping is already built into that price, even though it's said to be "free", LOL. NOTHING is free!
  19. I think that Azamon probably keeps an eye on competitor's prices as well as their own, but I don't know that for sure. But it wouldn't be hard for them to do. Their pricing algorithms are pretty aggressive. I guess another question might be this - does import CDs ever lower their prices on preorders after Azamon ships theirs? I don't order from them anymore, but they could do that, too. Ok, just checked, it's shipped. Current/shipped price is $71.99 + 8.5% local sales tax. We'll see if I get a "you saved..." email past this. What is import getting for this item?
  20. Needed to revisit both (not at all a bad thing!), my recollection is the opposite?
  21. My experience is that they often enough do. At least...after a preordered items is shipped, it's invoiced at a lower/lowest price. That's why I go ahead and preorder where it seems reasonable to do so. The final price is inevitably lower than the price at order. Now whether or not that's the lowest Azamon price and/or to what degree that price is driven by a price-matching algorithm, I don't know, haven't do an A-B study to find out. I tried importCDs for a few things, and it did not turn out well (one time VERY not well). so there's that as well. But...let's see what the final Amazon price is and A-B. I'd like to know, myself.
  22. Paul Bley Now I DO get to ask, right? Dave Tough or Don Lamond?
  23. Waiting to see if Azamon price matches on this one.
  24. What I still want to know is...a while back I found someplace online that was offering unrecord (unplayed?) charts from the Bird With Strings book/library. There were MIDI files, and the contributors included John Lewis, George Russell, a.o. Has anybody even looked into that/those with an eye towards performing them, in any fashion?
