  1. As Jaco once said: “This shit is correct, man.” As Wayne Shorter told me: “Peter! BIG BANDS!” And, as Joe Zawinul told anyone and everyone: “This is the greatest band in the history.” Yeah, I can get with the that. Think I'll be ordering AND reading!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have upgraded your account (at no extra charge!) to allow you to create and maintain a thread about any artist of your choosing. Enjoy!
  3. Because, maybe, in real time, there were real choices between Muscle Shoals and Memphis. I made my choices early on for Memphis, even if it was a choice of degree (and a smallish one at that). But a choice it was, and is.
  4. Eddie Baccus Dionysus August Belmont Jr.
  5. Quaint, actually. 1979, this band...heard them live bought the records in real time, etc. 40+ years later, people still playing like this, not moving any goalposts, or even trying to....seems quaint now to listen to this, from then, and think about this was going to be some new exciting "mainstream"....i guess there is no such thing, realistically, kind of an oxymoron, really. But on its own terms, hey helluva good band, and more than capable of friskyivity!

Dylan's big with the under-60 crowd, is he?
  7. Crap, just saw the price point, didn't notice that it was 3CDs, ordered now. DOH.
  8. No going to the alley, the back yard is just fine.
  9. Pretty good record.

And what if nobody cared? That would be both funny and appropriate!
  12. And seen it too...Andy Gonzalez was leaning into Dalto's left hand with eyes like a hawk and a look of intense concentration, and moving his lines accordingly...that was a revelation also, that a tumbao did not have to be harmonically predictable, not at all.
  13. And John Rodriguez on cowbell. I sat about 10 feet away from John Rodriguez playing cowbell all night with a Tito Puente "Latin Jazz All Stars" group one night, and....anybody who does not think that cowbell is a serious instrument in itself, and/or that it's jsut there for sonic decoration...hope in the time capsule with me and i will give you my seat so you can hear how fundamentally wrong you are on both counts! Honestly don't recal the exact personnel (or the club...Fat Tuesdays, maybe), but there were Mariano Rivera, both Gonzalez brothers, Jorge dalto, and John Rodriguez. Hell, that might have been everybody. But John Rodriguez, the "more cowbell" snarky meme/joke has never heard John Rodriguez!
  14. Yeah, that pronos that he made stands the test of time, especially the ones with June.
  15. Yeah...not what I need now more than ever...
  16. Sad to say, Christy sounds tired and out of shape here, sort of going through motions she only maybe wants to go through. It's an uncomfortable listen for me, anyway. That band itself is great, but the balance is awful. And Kenton himself, when he speaks, sounds drunk.
  17. Ugly packaging and jacked up sequencing, but what great music!
  18. I'm glad we don't have anything like that in America!
  19. Steve Earle Early Wynn Earling Haaland
  20. Sprockets was in on the joke, of course Maybe this guy should have moved to Brazil or where the rest of them moved?
  21. Exotica! From Rio! Pretend! Why would anybody care, notice, or take offense, this is America!
  22. needed now more than ever, eh?
