Cecil married his sister? YUCK. There was a Bridgewater Brothers record on Denon, part of the Reggie Workman A&R project. I wanted to like it, even a little, but just could not. I do like Dee Dee, though, and am glad that she divorced her brother, I mean, what were they thinking with that, eh?

"Kid" hardly seems accurate. "Youth", maybe. "Troubled youth" seems more like it, but "kid"...these were two emotionally maladjusted people of different ages. Past that...do we really need to " take sides" here? There's a good actor here? Seriously? If we're gonna try to get real, let's get real about all of it. There's a lot more dynamics at play here than 17/18 vs. 52 and ain't any of the pretty. The age thing in isolation might be the least ugly of it, and it's ugly enough. Name a way that America is ugly, it's here. Name a way that the species plays down to itself, it's here. Name a reason why life without hype apparently doesn't know what to do with itself, it's here. Except when proven otherwise (it happens), people make me sick.

Nirvana has all the earmarks of a record that never got completed. Had to be padded out with a few already-released Chico Hamilton cuts. But it's also kind of a lame-ish, overtly commercial set as well, so...I wonder what the inside skinny is there, because Avakian pretty soon got Lloyd out of Columbia. and I remain not-fully-convinced about Robbie Robertson. Maybe?

Sorry to be a scold...but "Get Happy" & "I Want to Be Happy" are different songs, different changes. I know, I'm an asshole, and really, at this point in time, nobody really cares, nobody plays either of the, right?
-
And I can get that, actually, because there has been no shortage of Prestige vinyl over the years, I mean just how bad do you want THOSE records, unless you got a kinky jones for them, you can get "a record" of those. An unreleased Billy Harper gig, this is it, not decades of inventory to paw though to get to that one.

Don't know what the head is on #2, but the changes are "I Want To Be Happy". Cumbia...when I first got exposed to "salsa", I jumped at the change to take a house band gig at a club that catered to the "mojado" population, which in Dallas at the time was just exploding. White Naivete strikes (again) because cumbia was ALL that crowd wanted to hear (well, some boleros and the occasional rancheras), but mostly Cumbia. And at first, that shit seemed corny to me. But it crew on me, especially once I heard real Columbian Cumbia. Sourcing makes a difference! #12, btw, if you're not yet there, you will be - some labels had a very distinct sound of their records, RCA definitely being one of them. I peeked, and holy shit, Ra/Gilmore on #15! And no bass? So, a Horo record, or something else. I have New Steps but don't recall this one on it.

Having a cursory run through, I hear "I Want To Be Happy" on #2, Julius Hemphill on #4, Dukica con Carney ("Chromatic Love Affair"?) on #5, How Depp Is Clifford Joradn (VERY!) on #6, Arthur Blythe on # 7, something reminiscent of "Tempis Fugit" but not that on #9, Cumbia of unknown origin on # 10, wonderfully Hodges-ian tenor onan equally wonderful tune on #11, Illinois Jacquet (w/Leo Parker & JJ on RCA?) on #12, Charles McPherson (again a beautiful tune, is it a bolero in origin?) on #13, maybe Kenny Wheeler on #14, and...15, no idea, because what I think I might be hearing shouldn't really be by who I think it is? What I have no clue about, I liked. Good comp! The month is new, hope to have opportunity to get more in-depth soon!

I don't think it's "blaming the victim" to point out that somebody admits to already being comfortable in abusive situations...it needs to be pointed out, not to "blame" her, but to contribute to the conversation that, yes, she to made a bad choice, was probably/obviously already making bad choices, and is hopefully working on figuring out why that was so that, again, hopefully, she learns how to stop doing that, not for the least of reasons being that she's got a kid now, and that shit gets passed on if left to its own devices. They both need help, and truthfully, the younger a person is, the more hope there is for them. But that's only if they confront their own pathologies. No matter who is to blame for creating them, it's on you to fix yourself. Not all by yourself, obviously, but to direct yourself into a healing path. You have to own your outcome, and barring any externally imposed violence or other uncontrollable denial, there are no excuses for not doing so. Besides, retroactive blaming - of anybody - is easy. Being proactive and empowering young people to know there value as much if not more than anybody else does, lest it be taken from them when nobody's looking, that's hard.

But by her own admission, she already "had a habit of being comfortable in abusive situations" before she met Coleman. Troubled before, troubled after. Seeing that she's a mom now, I really do hope that her healing is going deeper than venting on Facebook. If it doesn't....those cycles will repeat. Sex doesn't fix it, parenthood for damn sure doesn't fix it. At some point, if you know you keep doing something, repeatedly making the same bad choices, it's on you to stop making those choices. If you didn't know then, you know now. Getting to the point of healthy - to be able to do that is not easy, and once you become able to, it's likely a lifetime of vigilance to stay healthy. Adults need to do a better job of teaching boys how to not act, but also of teaching girls what to not accept. None of this is easy because...adults are too often still adolescents themselves and it's hard to educate about traps when you're already ensnared in them yourself. Again, not sure what good Facebook is going to do to anybody except create even more outward diversions for people to let into their own already diverted minds, but that's just me.

Designed in Seattle, made in China, headquartered in Antioch, TN...this sounds like an emerging variant of the Smooth Jazz Pandemic. Let's not fuck it up this time, get your shots, wear your earplugs.

The B-Side made it on to Nirvana, which has a few tunes that allegedly have Robbie Robertson playing. I am going to need some more convincing about that, but with John Simon producing, that's possible, I guess. But this A-Side supposedly comes form the same session as the B-Side, so that would be Szabo, Carter, & Tony.

Indeed! That particular video was selected for the WTF? factor of not just the CGI angel, but of the whole thing, period. I like the reminder of how the passage of time often leads to an inability to just leave well enough alone. For that, there's this:

An Amazon seller has one for something just a little under $100.00. I know, still available thru normal channels, but this limited run stuff is a hedge bet, because if you limit it to a smaller market than you know really wants it, a sellout is all but guaranteed, because the aftermarket sellers will pick it up and get their price for it. This is not complicated, this is raw capitalism. This is not a labor of true love, because love takes risks, and love does not build a safety net for itself. So still, there'll be enough...someday.

You don't have to pass on hearing it... It's already hearable. And it really is a must-hear record!
