  3. Lloyd Price, it should be noted, also became a promoter and general business presence, he was not somebody who had some hits and then just faded away to the oldies circuit. He mad a lot of really good records past the hits. RIP
  4. Take that fucker back. Get one that plays right, like a record should play. Think about it - if you had paid as much as....$8.98 for that record, you'd not think twice. This is more than 3X that.
  5. Ok, factoring for inflation, a $4.98 record in 1972 would cost $31.57 today. So, about the same, actually a jumbo soda less. But that $4.98 record ($3.98 for mono), would probably play just fine, and if it didn't, hope in the car (or on the bike) and take it over to Soundtownhouse Of Records and get a new one that did, no problem, no questions asked, hey, this record don't play right, oh, bummer, here's a new one. Things are supposed to get better over time, unless people forget how to do it, or else just don't give a damn about how it comes out. And the consumer is supposed to drive that bus, if they can stay sober-minded enough, which, ugh about how that goes. But Kramden done Krunk.
  6. Perilously close, my ass- it's an all-in old guy rant. They charging how much for this shit and it can't even play as good as a $4.99 LP from 1972? This only happens because consumers allow it, the same way the discontinuation of vinyl occurred in the first place because consumers allowed it. Consumers, like people in general, all too ready to vote against their own best reality-based interests whenever a new shiny object is thrown in front of them.
  7. have the record people done forot how to make records like they used to, you know, where they play right, like records? has all the knowledge science been lost in less than a lifetime? is the $1200/records cost going to R&D and to schooling for record making scientists to reclaim the acanity?
  8. Those covers put me in mind of a science experiment to combine Elton John with Nana Mouskouri, and that kinda makes me wish that science would find something else to do with its time.

  12. Are they doing this again, or is this still the 1992 release?
  13. The real Golden Age of that duo was the mid-70s, imo. They toured! Storyville did LPs and then expanded CDs (3, iirc) and they are all pretty much astounding. Wave did an LP. But that Pausa LP...taking that one to heaven with me so if nothing else gets me in, being able to add that one to the library will. Especially if they've been waiting on the CD that never came.
  14. I liked his Varitone work as well. It made that "buzzing around in his own head" quality that's so beautiful about his thought process that much buzzier.
  15. Ok, this one is prioritizable...LP only to the best of my knowledge. Perhaps the sublimest of the sublime for this group.
  16. All the Warne/Lee collabs from their 70s tours. ALL of them. But especially the Pausa. The duets with Gil. The Milestone box. I pick up random Philology dates as I find them and have yet to be disappointed, but for historicaloisuty purposes, one called From Newport to Nice is a jimdandyhumdinger. StereoKonitz, w/Enrico Rava! At some point, just start buying shit, just because. It'll work far more often than not.

  19. I was expecting a really godawful record, but in fact got a good quantity of upbeat E-Z cheer, disposably keepable for the next time you want cocktail music for people who are tired of Chet Atkins and want something more mod-y and peppey. But you do need to take Joe's head off the guitar neck, I get that it was intended to be an olive on a swizzle stick, but, ok, Joe, you tried. Now let's go and get that fixes, thanks buddy! And let's all take note, because this is important - he does NOT ruch the time here, not at all. Extra 25 Enjoymnet Points for that alone!

  21. Just tell people, hey, it's been fun, but we gotta break it up this time. Or as we used to say at the end of the evening, last tune, last set thank yous and intros all done, nothing left but - , Y'all don't gotta to go home...butcha can't stay here! GOODNIGHT EVERYBODY"
