  1. Yeah, well, courts and laws, render unto Caesar the salad, but how you dress is what's on you. Plenty of people of all illks got the law on their side because the law by definition takes sides. Laws are not really big on telling both sides to go to hell, that's not what they're there for, never have been, never will be.
  2. Yeah, there's not enough to pay Billy too much becuased there's not enough to sell maybe some more because there's not enough to make some CDs, but don't worry, there'll be enough SOMEDAY, like, if Sam's not making money, he's probably not losing money either, so how convenient that there's not enough after that. I bet Sam got a day gig or something.
  3. Had a listen on YouTube this AM, still sounds good, $6.98 @ Amazon, hey. What I would REALLY go for would be a record David Byrne covering Hall & Oates songs.

As with Phil Woods and his similarly instrumented professional named Charlie Parker, what used to be known by the name of Mosaic represented what a combination of a collection of private tapes and a loving box of records can be done to. Or Sam Rivers.
  5. Neither Lee Morgan nor Tommy Turrentine, but Richard Williams!
  6. There'll be enough, some day.
  7. No? And if I don't do that, is that illegal?
  8. The next time I see Billy (hopefully there will be one), I'll give him $30 bucks cash and apologize for not buying the Sam LP.
  9. I like it. Many don't, but there are plenty "restrained" Kenton albums that truly suck. This one doesn't, not even somewhat. Cool cover, too.
  10. He deserves to sell his LPs to people who want them, and from what I can see, that's exactly what he's doing. Seeing that some of them have sold out already, he is getting exactly what he deserves in that regard. Otherwise...FLACs? Are you sure? Illegal? How? Where? Hello.
  11. I love the irony of a Stan Kenton influence translating to extreme quiet..but it seems that Kenton got the hint, at least a little, as much as he could get a hint...,Artistry in Bossa Nova hardly whispers, but it would not be audible at all in the same room as, say, Adventures In Time. Then again, not even a jet engine would be!
  12. https://www.aventuradobrasil.com/blog/brazilian-music-styles-the-bossa-nova/ Talks here about a Bossa dance being introduced around 1960 and not catching on. Lennie Dale is featured on the Ellis Regina biopic, which also depicts her as being very scornful of the "cool," style of singing. That film is on Amazon prime and is worth a look/listen. so..what were people dancing in Brazil? Still the Samba steps? I have no idea, but certainly there were quicker bossas that could have been danced to, just as there was post-bop stuff that was danced. Intent is one thing, outcome...one never knows. Dancers make their own rules, I've learned. They tell you what they will dance to, you don't tell them.
  13. All right, then. Sounds like there's a fuller picture ( no pun intended) to be had, maybe. And now I wonder even more if that blurb about the dance for the Jequibau was a totally fabricated American record company line of bullshit.
  14. His elbow?
  15. No, I did not ask if there was a dance in Brazil called the Bossa Nova. I asked were people dancing to the Bossa Nova in Brazil, and if they were what were they dancing, what dance(s). You can make it simpler by either giving an answer to that question or by simply saying that you don't know.
  16. How touching that they don't do CDs except for that time they did Oh well, CDs will be made anyway, just not by them.
  17. Can you summarize, or do I need to go read the book so I can do it? I mean, either people were dancing or they weren't. I get that the original intent was one thing, and I've heard that boot of the night that Ipanema was debuted, and it's all very Rat Pack-y, but... that's one end of the spectrum. At the other end, there was a lot of Bossa popular records being made in Brazil for Brazilians, so we're they all being sold for navel-gazing and chic-ing, or was there some foot moving and ass gyrating going on as well?
  18. But as for Brazil...I cannot imagine not dancing to Walter Wanderly. No matter the glammed up saudade, there's still a dance there.
  19. If they had (or quite possibly, invented) a dance for the Jeqibau, then they were already dancing to Bossa, no? Then again, that note about the dance was on the back of an American LP, so maybe the whole thing was made up.Maybe nobody danced to Bossa in Brazil, maybe they just (allegedly) did that in America. Again, Americans will just make shit up and sell it because nothing will stop them except for nobody buying it. But if they buy it, hey, it must be real, right? 50,000,000 Elvis fans can't be wrong.
  20. Not telling any tales out of school here, but people are buying this stuff, ripping it to digital, and then sharing with friends. I heard of one guy who bought the LP just to rip it and then gave the LP away. So Sam is losing money by not offering at least a limited run of CDs as well as their LPs. None of my business, but still....

  22. Do we know that there was not a Bossa Nova dance in Brazil? Certainly not the American one, of course. But were people too chill and to cool to dance to Bossa in Brazil?
  23. No, Adam ate the Apple. Jeff ate the money.

  25. Stealth like a mo...who would have imagined Thai it would have been Hall & Oates who would be the ones to marshal the ingredients of the avant-pop primordial stew of the 70s to not just emerge on land, but walk upright to the top of the charts for a couple of years? Imagine Brian Eno producing David Byrne singing Brian Wilson songs, only David Byrne was an unabashed blue-eyed soul singer...that,'s kinda what those records sounded like to me at the time. My first time hearing "Kiss On My List" was on some staticy sunrise-to-sunset AM station in rural Kansas, and yeah, it was like War Of The World's or so shit, aliens had invaded, when do we get to someplace with a record store?
