  2. I had a good time in the theatre and had a good hot dog in the lobby. Worth both my time and my money. Entertainment!

  4. This is the one you want: Plenty of Trane!
  5. This is the correct logo for that cover: That trident logo with that font did not come along until the very late 1960s, by which time the design of the Prestige covers was into a new bag altogether.
  6. But what about Into Something? "Greenbay Music" publishing...does not sound like a record-company front...Lion could be kinda snockywonky about publishing...maybe there was a tiff about this and the other original tunes (Lay-Up" Publishing?)? And maybe Grant had a session tape or rehearsal tape that he, uh, "liberated" from BN and that's what he sold for dope money. There are definitively "non-linear" aspects in this story, and we will likely never know the full, unvarnished saga. So let's just make shit up and develop into a movie about Miles having a tape that gangsters were after him about. that was a pretty good movie, imo!
  7. Grant, no. Larry Young, yes: But look at the publishing here...not that Grant had a lot of compositions to his credit at this time, but...
  8. So in theory, you could have had a Basie trombone section of Curtis Fuller, Fred Wesley, and George Lewis...and Butch Miles on drums. So much for in theory...
  9. I remember how happy "everybody" was about tighter inventory controls and production runs thanks to UPC codes and centralized computer reports and all that....market efficiencies. Waste would be reduced, if not eliminated entirely. Well, there's something to be said about waste.

  16. Spent three weeks in Des Plains doing a hotel gig and went to JRM once a week...probably could have literally lived there for a month and MAYBE have looked at all the inventory. RIP, to all of it and them. Analog at its truest, these kids today just see the dying gasps and don't know what it means to not know anything but.
  17. I like that they also made some records of, uh, contemporary music. Which now seems to be forgotten music!

  22. Two LPs! Not sure how many such LPs Contemporary did, but I did find one of Vernon Duke compositions (not songs, compositions) that was totally cool. So there seemed to have been a window for such things at the label.
