  1. you can post the link to the PDF. It might even end with .pdf Anyway, just post the link, if it is a link and not an email attachment. If it's an email attachment, you're SOL until it gets posted to a linkable site.

  4. It's funny, the OG quartet lasted about a year, but made a lot of records, mostly concise and conceptual in the extreme. There was a formula, but...the thing changed when Chico left. Like if Ringo would have left The Beatles. Larry Bunker is great, though, it's not that...but with anything, fresh grows to a peak and thenoften rides a plateau on the mountaintop and then either goes down the other side or freezes itself. all of which is to say that it was good while it lasted (and that ok, if these were the only records Chet Baker ever made, I would "get it" a LOT more than I do now....but they weren't, so I don't). and that Chico, like Ringo, was the real flayva for this thing, Chico left this band to take a gig with Lena Horne for crissakes. The Remnants made a record with Annie Ross, which is/was all well and good, but...Lena Horne...extra-music mojocred out the ass for that. Not even Fred Katz gigging with Liberace approaches that one. With Chico in the Quartet, it was a pop band, an instrumental jazz pop band. After Chico, it was a jazz quartet. Larry Bunker, though, one helluvagood drummer. I also wonder if Mulligan and Baker had the same dealer and were using the same shit...because the narcotic-ish simpatico on these pre-bust sides is pretty damn in there. Two of a mind, spookily so at times. Corny too, but that was gonna be there, it was hard wired into it, I think. pop music accepts that better than jazz.
  5. Contemporaneous reports suggested that it was a really good band. do these audience recordings support this? They did a fairly good record for Atlantic, and I heard them on some NPR/APR jazz festival broadcast where they sounded pretty frisky. So...not exactly over-documented. Casual documentation such as this might be "all there is"....but 10 volumes? Geez....and grey-market...never pay list price for grey-market (or anything, for that matter, if you can help it). But it's a band I wouldn't mind hearing if they were really busting loose.

  8. I'm saying if you want to hear Count Basie playing live on the radio today, you're going to have a set of difficulties that have nothing to do with me. Oh crap, more to look for now...although transcriptions are a different breed (in my mind), as are AFRS shows...the area I like to focus on is the Lester-Jo Mojo Show, of which there is sure to be much on those broadcasts, so....i will get busy, thanks for the pointer!
  9. I've paid nothing for these files and have yet to burn the to any kind of a physical medium (except a hard drive and an iPod). I have, however, played the fuck out of them over the years and feel I do know them pretty well, actually, because, repeated, non-distracted listening is good about getting you that. So...what were you saying again? If Mosaic gets THAT together, hey, somebody will have died an gone to somebody's heaven, somewhere. It won't be this world. But ok, traveling through this paradisaical hypothetical, I would but it just because I would take it as an article of faith that the peoples who should have gotten paid would have gotten paid. That's important to me. And a good book included with groovy pictures, yes, I would drool over that got several days. But would I ever listen to all of it, or just whatever parts I didn't already have? Maybe, maybe not. Because the object is one thing, the music another. T'wasn't always so, but, really home taping killed all that shit and I know I did plenty of that. Yes - I killed the music industry. I was that guy. But god knows, I keep making atonement. And yet I keep sinning, so...fuck me, I am doomed. And am ok with that. As for other people, I know how people do, people hear a song and think they know the record. Not everybody, obviously, but most, even more obviously. btw - the discography I put in there...anybody who wants to dabble before committing (or quitting), thre ya' go, there's the map to get you going on which will you do.
  10. Ok - 4 folders, 1937-1940, 99 tracks in total. Here's the discography that came with the files. 14. That's kinda how I got it to begin with...just not openly. Just putting this up here so people know that it exists, if you're looking to "fill in the cracks" of OT Basie, REALLY wanting to do that, hey, go get it somehow. If you're looking to dabble, keep outta this, dabbling is pretty easy and dabblers are easily satisfied. People who need to find it will find it. Otherwise next thing you know, the Andormaniacs spew it all over the place and so much for that, nobody will need to hear it because everybody's heard it, I'm all for availability, but every bit as much in favor of discernment. Just because you have it doesn't mean you know it, you talk about the debasement of the language, hell this is the Age Of Debasement, sorry, it just is.

I need to know does everybody have the same understanding of what "unissued" means...

  18. For the album’s release Grandmixer DXT worked his magic to bring the audio from the concert into the 21st century. Palo Alto: The Custodian's Mix uses the audio from the original tape to put you in that high school auditorium in October 1968 and lets you feel what it was like to be in the room. No it won't. That's not how actually being in the room works. Bird In L.A. Details, please? Already out there on other (specialty) labels, or just what, exactly? I see there's also CD on that one, yay! If I was a few decades younger and knew that I would play it enough, I might get that Jonathan Winters set. But I'm not, and I don't.

  20. Yeah, '37. I gotta look at the files again, there's some details in there. All I know is that it's a lot, and it's damn near all elevational. This is the type of thing that ought to be able to be collated and presented as a cohesive slice of the global musical history that it is. If that means doing something "non-profit", so be it. These weren't records made for/with commercial intent, these are radio broadcasts that just happened to get captured whil trying to make it out into the ether. Can we as a people still do non-profit as a real thing, not just as a hook?

  23. I don't count AFRS Jubilee, just commercial radio broadcasts...not all are Famous Door, they come from all places. I say 3 CDs, but I don't know, I received them as files, and there were three folders worth of files. Never ported them over to hard copy, so... you want to get the one where the announcer says "Cown Bazzie"...I think it might be from somewhere in Pennsylvania?
