  1. I think Grant plays great on Standards myself. Lining his lines up with Wilbur Ware's is quite stimulating. I'm not really thrilled with Al Harewood on the date, though, and that azimuth issue, although better on CD than on LP is problematic.
  2. The Decca stuff, what is it being sourced from? Aimed at addressing the elephant in the room - did the MCA fire impact what sources were available for that portion of this project? It's ok for me if the answer is yes, btw. I mean, there's this, but lord, MCA was already pressing on crappy vinyl even then, I'd hardly look to it as an "alternative". and, ok, this, but...uh...good luck on finding a true mint copy of that, and besides, only 10 cuts, Just...was there an impact from the fire on the availability of Decca source material when assembling this set? It seems like a "yes" or "no" question. Either way, this is probably going to be the standard archive for this material going forth, and it sounds like they're proceeding with that reality in mind.
  3. I had to download the foobar ape codec. But it was all in-house w/foobar. 7-ZIP, now that's another story...had to get that one for one - ONE - blog. It was worth it, but geez, who thinks shit like that is a good idea, unless they're trying to scare away casual traffic (which is actually a more than good enough reason, come to think of it).
  4. Yeah, it's cool. At least, if the content of the file itself is cool. But the file format itself is cool. And if you use Foobar, hey: https://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_input_monkey No idea about the Monkey's Audio version itself, though. I tend stick with Foobar for anything "fringey" like that.
  5. In fairness to the Captain (howdy again, Caps!), the Resonance website gives a song/track list that is lacking in sourcing, which when dealing with transcriptions, is useful information to the non-general consumer (and realistically, will there be any non-non-general consumers buying this?). I mean, ain't nobody gonna be saying "Lazy Hazy Crazy Days Of Summer & Rambling Rose brought me here", ya' know?
  6. You guys crack me up.
  7. Certainly seems like a worthwhile - and necessary project! What will be the source for the Decca material?
  8. Humans are only "special" until we figure out how they work, at which point they become replicable, and therefore disposable. Much love to those who have fought the good fight, good luck to everybody else.
  9. Indeed it was, all the way to the end. Put me in mind of this:
  10. They'll be sharing a bill with Lonnie Holley, I see.
  11. It takes a lot of courage to match that jacket with that shirt, and even more smarts to know that the ascot will pull it all together somehow.
  12. Another vote for reality-based sanity, thank you!
  13. Regarding the Decca material, will Resonance have access to the same source materials that Verve did, and if so, will they use them?
  14. Verve did this in 2010: in light of the warehouse fire, is it possible that this set had access to - and used - the actual master recordings (which would be not be tape, correct?)? Apart from that, is the Resonance set going to completely cover this Verve set, or will the JATP items not be included? I see mention of the Asch label, so that's probably JATP, but one never knows...
  15. This is a record to have:
  16. It's something to do damn near every day for half the year. You can literally plan your day/week/months around it.
  17. Relying on your memory? You're doing better than me, dude. I had to go back to the record and count. And it wasn't easy...
  18. You see disco, I see coke, I think we're both seeing the same thing, actually... Because Bobby Riggs couldn't hang with Archie Shepp?
  19. One of these days I'll get up in the closet and scan/post the Spin magazine review of the 25th(?) anniversary reissue of the LP.
