Tisziji Munoz with Marilyn Crispell et al July 15

Thanks. I just noticed this on the Falcon website. Was going to post it, but found your thread. -
Will strongly consider this. I enjoyed the recent reissue on Luaka Bop (iir the label c). Disclosure: I've taken up yoga in my advancing years, and have gotten more comfortable with the "woo-woo" spiritual material than some listeners may be.

Thanks. Big fan of DuNann's work. The article seemed strangely familiar...on review I realized that I had read the original article in Stereophile!

No direct knowledge, but the NY Times ran a favorable story.

Balkan political/ethnic history is incredibly complex, with many ugly elements (e.g. Chetniks, Ustashe, various episodes of "ethnic cleansing")...I don't pretend to know enough to comment or pass judgment, and am happy to stay far removed. -

What Classical Music Are You Listening To?
T.D. replied to StarThrower's topic in Classical Discussion
The 9th. -
Had to make a work trip near a rare semi-local (Kingston, NY) brick/mortar shop. Was pleasantly surprised to find the following CDs (used, very good condition):

Latest in one of my favorite thriller series. Unfortunately, Kerr recently passed away, so it's also likely the last. Guilty pleasure, I suppose, but I've long been a major fan of Estleman. Detroit-themed material, that is; never tried the Westerns and others.

That's the eternal dilemma I wrestle with re. Wagner... Glad you enjoyed it.

Teddy Kotick is the "Unknown Jazz Musician" of Hod O'Brien's tune and album Fanfare (for the Unknown Jazz Musician). Japanese release, worth a listen if you like O'Brien.

Good luck. I agree that a staged version would be preferable, but that's probably a rare event in your area. I've attended two complete live Ring cycles. Probably too late, but it might be useful to acquire a libretto and read it before going (could also bring it to the event).

MLB 2018: let the games begin!
T.D. replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yes. BTW, the drug (furosemide) is a diuretic and known masking agent. According to this story, furosemide per se is not banned by MLB, but an "independent program administrator" must have concluded that it was being used as a masking agent. Quoting the story: MLB classifies the drug as a “diuretic or masking agent.” Since it’s not considered a PED by Major League Baseball, there is no automatic ban. Section 3.F of the joint drug agreement says that if a diuretic or masking agent is present in a player’s specimen, it’s re-tested. If the drug is still present, an independent program administrator (who has no association with the commissioner’s office, any MLB team, or the MLB Players Association) is responsible for determining if the player intended to mask another substance by taking a diuretic. If the IPA determines that the player did intend to mask, that’s when the suspension kicks in. -
I once purchased a 5-CD set on Amazon for what seemed like a crazy low price, under $17, free shipping from UK when other sellers were well over $40 (current low price is $60). The set had been on my wish list, so I jumped on the offer, but I had a feeling I was taking advantage of a pricing error. The UK shipper claimed to have shipped, but did not provide a tracking number and the item never arrived. He (extremely) promptly issued a refund, but I suspect that he realized the pricing error and never actually shipped.

Generally agreed. I don't own that many Granz/Verve recordings due to lack of enthusiasm for NG's format and production approach. But I do own Sonny Side Up and consider it outstanding.

Mets trade Matt Harvey to Reds. Don't know enough about the respective contracts (and who's paying what) to comment. -
+1. I didn't expect too much from the CD, being packaged with a book purchased at a discounted price, but was (pleasantly) shocked by how good it is.

MLB 2018: let the games begin!

Richly deserved and no surprise. I'm mostly a hockey fan...back in the old days, when an NHL team had a chronic malcontent the club would endeavor to trade the player to Winnipeg, as the most undesirable destination. Pity there's no comparable franchise location in MLB (as far as I can tell). -
Hey Kids, Have You Heard The News? MOSAIC's IN TROUBLE!!!
T.D. replied to JSngry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
+1. Lowballed a bid on eBay a couple of weeks ago and missed; the set sold well under list. It's something I'd kind of like to hear, but way too big a $ investment and I seriously question how many times I'd listen to most of the discs. I also recall a thread in which some posters whose judgment I respect expressed reservations about the box. -
Breaking: Ford to discontinue its sedans in the US market
T.D. replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
+1 on all counts. In the mid 20-oughts, all the US auto mfrs did the same thing, only to go bankrupt in the economic downturn. Anecdote: when I started in the finance business in 1983, I learned that Wall St. considered all the US automakers so stupid that their stocks traded at puny multiples of book value, and the investment community preferred that the car companies pay out the largest dividends possible rather than reinvesting the profits and pissing the money away. (This was a shocking letdown, as I grew up in the Midwest and had high respect for those industrial titans.) I don't think a heck of a lot has changed. -
