This is the first Alice Coltrane recording I heard, after paying no attention for a long time (maybe I didn't take her seriously, or thought her music would be too much woo-woo spirituality). It's outstanding! I've since gotten quite a few AC recordings (including "spiritual" material ).

I posted about DeepMind /AlphaZero back on Dec. 6 (in the chess thread), but nobody noticed. Seriously, I think the implications are incredible and far-reaching. In jazz, if the goal is to "swing", "play like Monk" or the like, I expect AlphaZero could quickly learn to do it, provided the programmers were motivated to embark on such a project.

First book in a series by an author my brother recommended. So far (about halfway through) an excellent British spy novel. I was less impressed by the earlier Herron novel (Down Cemetery Road) I read, though.

Continuing to explore early Ra albums...great stuff, dunno why I ignored him until now. My favorite Brignola recording, with a real all-star group.

The underlying games are often given funny names. Today's puzzle features a very clever pun.

Thanks. It so happens that Sound of Joy is now playing, and both are delightful. I just purchased the discs from Stefan W. on this forum. In the process of discovering Ra (was always put off by the huge volume and variety of recordings), and greatly enjoy what I've heard so far.

Rehab center is not the same as a nursing home. Not meant to be permanent; recovering patients usually are released from a hospital to a rehab center, where they stay and undergo therapy until they regain sufficient mobility to return home.

Sergey Schepkin's recordings of Bach's Partitas on Ongaku (can't readily find decent images). Have long enjoyed these. He's recently re-recorded the Partitas (the French Suites too) on Steinway & Sons, and I'll have to hear them.

This book is incredibly sloppily put together (can't say poorly edited since I doubt it was edited at all), but Stamp is an interesting character and compelling story-teller. I finished it in less than 24 hours.
