  1. Damn. I never comment on reported "hangings" until some time for investigation has passed, because of the seeming frequency of autoerotic asphyxiation. I was especially wary given the Bangkok (noted destination for sex junkets) location. But WTF would you take a trip to BKK and then wank? RIP.
  2. Supporting my semi-local music shop (Hudson Valley region of NY), which actually does a good job of stocking jazz. New: Mingus, The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady Used: Dizzy Reece, Blues in Trinity
  3. Wow. I used to occasionally read Archie comic books, quite a bit more than 35 years ago. Didn't know the comic book series was still going (though I faintly recall seeing some comic strips)...didn't think "modern" kids'd be interested in that sort of thing.
  4. PM sent on Jazztet- with Curtis Fuller, Lee Morgan, Benny Golson, etc- on Savoy
  5. I pretty much agree with Dan (rare event?): if Vick has done his time, he could play tomorrow for all I care. No opinion on what the NFL commissioner may say or do; I reckon that's part of the shit Vick has to deal with.
  6. I thought it was in the Artists forum, but it seems to have been deleted. No comment (as a matter of policy, I never get involved with the controversial threads).

    Stan Getz

I'm just about to pull the trigger on Dynasty, not just for Mr. Getz's playing but also for Rene Thomas's. Tough for me to imagine Getz playing with an organ combo, but should be interesting.
  8. http://reports.chessdom.com/news-2009/nata...ogonina-website "Chessdom.com presents Natalia Pogonina's website Chess Kamasutra top secret project ... Natalia Pogonina revealed to [Chessdom.com] her "top secret" project - Chess Kamasutra. It is a book that teaches chess using analogies from sex, and vice versa. More info will be published later on Chessdom." Hubba hubba... [i couldn't access the home page]
  9. Even if Gruden brings nada (and he seems fairly bright), it's addition by subtraction. I never could stomach Kornheiser, that shouting contest thing on SportsCenter is (was? I no longer watch) abominable.
  10. I think EPL football is by far the best televised sport. Not just the game itself, but the format: no commercials, and games are typically over within two hours. My only quibble, not having ever been a soccer player, is that I find the theatrical diving offensive, but that seems to be a greater problem in international play.
  11. Damn. I recall reading about the lower leg amputation, but didn't know his health had gotten worse from there. RIP.
  12. Wow, what a high-powered intellectual conclave. I'm sure there will be oodles of clever repartee...Won't exactly evoke images of Bloomsbury, the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, or even a Mensa meeting.

  14. I dunno who Bill Plaschke is, but I figure that the concept of "sample size" is beyond the comprehension of most sportswriters...
  15. Getting off the chemical subject... Hey, Big Al, I see that Tom Hicks just defaulted on a loan linked to the Rangers (also the Dallas Stars hockey club). This might get interesting.
  16. Yup. And, as I like to point out, nobody ever sued him for libel.
  17. Funny Manny story: He was taking the stuff because of a limp dick...
  18. For the record, though I quibbled about Ms. Ripa's annoyance factor, I would of course do her (in the unlikely event she was willing )... Thinking back to the chess babe thread, how about big and smart? IM Elina Danielian (ARM, 2496)
  19. Anyone heard the Bud Powell? Can't find any reviews. I put it on my queue, but fear it could be somewhat of a mixed bag ("late Verve").
  20. I found the same thing as the first several posters, and assumed it was coding errors. Half.com has always seemed rather buggy. Dunno about ghostofmiles's issue.
  21. Good luck with that. Didn't work out so well for the J-E-T-S. OK, Favre played hurt late last year, but another year older won't make him less injury-prone, or his arm stronger.
  22. Agreed. Definitely attractive, but thin. Granted, most celeb women / models would appear painfully thin in person (camera adds pounds, so they have to be emaciated). I just can't get past the annoying factor. I don't watch TV, and when morning shows impinge on my consciousness their inanity blows my mind...
  23. Unfortunately, there's one very serious injury. IRVING, Texas (AP)—A Dallas Cowboys scouting assistant was permanently paralyzed from the waist down after his spine was severed during the collapse of the team’s tent-like practice structure in a severe storm. The team announced Rich Behm was in stable condition at Parkland Hospital on Sunday after surgery to stabilize a fracture to the thoracic spine. The 33-year-old Behm was among a dozen people hurt in the accident Saturday, and was one of three Cowboys staffers who remained hospitalized.
