  2. Every once in a while, I read about proposals to harness bovine flatulence, using the collected methane as an energy source and cutting down on CO2 emissions...I always wind up thinking that they should reserve one of those machines for me.

  5. Too complex to answer the question overall, since I made two buys in last Summer's Concord blow-out, and have steadily been adding titles since then. One noteworthy recent addition: thanks to an excellent seller on this BBS, I just picked up Eric Dolphy At the Five Spot, Volume 1 K2, which I had tried in vain to buy in last year's blowout.

  8. My experience is if they don't come up with your cd(s) within two weeks, they cancel the order. The last time I took advantage of there sale, I received 2 of the 4 discs. Two were placed on backorder. A good time had passed and I wondered of there status. I called there 800 number and that was there response. I wish I knew of this beforehand, since I saw one of the recordings in a store and passed up on purchasing them. My experience with J&R on backorders is pretty dismal. If the item doesn't clearly show "In Stock" on their site, I don't even bother to put it in the shopping cart. I found that the not-in-stock, "ships in 2-4 weeks" (or whatever) items basically never shipped, and just slowed the rest of the order down by two weeks. [Added] Just got e-mail from J&R pimping a "Jazz Sale". In addition to the BNs, there are a lot of OJCs for $7.99. Their best sale prices on OJC have been $6.99, but the $7.99 level may still warrant adding a few items to BN orders...
  9. I was told that this is a federal matter because Bad Newz Kennels organized the fights in Tennessee and elsewhere (Georgia?) in addition to Virginia. Yes, a Sports Illustrated article mentioned this a few weeks ago. Not just organization; Vick's (and partners') dogs were transported across state lines to participate in fights. Haven't seen details of the plea agreement yet. It'll be interesting to see what goes down on the Federal charges. I did hear on the radio this afternoon that Vick is likely to do some jail time.
  10. Thanks much! I'll remit via PayPal as soon as you send your e-mail address (or PP instructions). Very considerate of you to ship so quickly. [Added] Fantastic transaction, CDs arrived today in what must be a speed record for CA->NY.

  17. I guess you could consider it a good sign, but I don't think GM (or Ford, or Chrysler) makes any money on US sales of passenger cars (the $ is made in trucks and certain foreign markets). So it's essentially a story about "loss leaders". I'll definitely look to Asia for my next auto. Aside from quality issues, GM doesn't really offer models I'd want...

  23. I thought the consensus was that Northern Windows is dreck because Hawes plays some electric piano (I haven't heard it, but passed it up at BMG clearance and yourmusic for that reason). Didn't know the David Axelrod production was a plus; descriptions I've read seemed a bit scary...
