  1. That's for the forthcoming $200 vinyl package. 😉
  2. Not sure if Anthony Braxton's diagrams / graphic scores qualify.
  3. I've often seen Marion Brown referred to as a "visual artist" among other things, but never saw any examples of his work. Courtesy of Google, I found one image: http://inconstantsol.blogspot.com/2018/02/a-painter-named-marion-brown.html A comment there says "A number of his paintings & drawings (& poetry too) can be seen in the book "Recollections" by Marion Brown (Jas Publikationen 1984)", but I can't verify. Maybe MB did some of his own album covers? I didn't think so, but will have to check.
  4. They had a relationship for a while iirc. That was back in the days (late '70s) when I still paid attention to such media stories. [I gradually lost touch with "popular culture", mainly via not watching television.]
  5. I initially enjoyed RLJ's first album and the Saturday Night Live appearance referred to above, for instance. But I soon revised my opinion, finding her extremely affected (some combination of drug chic and contrived beat mannerisms that were massive turnoffs) and (good term) "strained". Lost interest and stopped paying attention after a couple more albums. Wouldn't be surprised if she's recorded some good stuff since then, but it hasn't been a listening priority. Nothing against the Orb, I simply never heard of them until this thread. In the early '90s when they appeared I was mainly into classical music. Subsequently it's been "too much music, too little time" and all that. BTW (in response to previous posts), I'm 65 and don't have any issues with sampling, etc.
  6. I had to look them up. https://www.allmusic.com/artist/the-orb-mn0000891575/biography Influential armchair techno act whose thick, textural soundscapes combined '60s psychedelia and '70s prog with house beats and dub basslines. I still don't know exactly what they are...😁 But they seem to be big in their field.
  7. A mere 10+ years later, I just bought this. 🤣 Heard Bada Que Bash on one of the "Spiritual Jazz" compilations, couldn't get it out of my head. Listened to a few more tracks online and figured "Why not?".
  8. I grew up in the Chicago area and saw many great blues performers live in clubs. Son Seals was one of the most memorable, and of course Alligator is an excellent label. I never purchased many blues LPs (this was well before CD age), because the ones I heard never measured up to the live performances.
  9. Yeah, I've been downsizing for a few years and shelf space is a significant deal. I've been jettisoning a lot of books, with more to go. Haven't gotten to the point of selling box sets, as that's a major hassle. Recently turned 65, agree on listening time and money.
  10. I'm on the fence about this new Kenny Wheeler release. Like what I hear online, but the total playing time is under 30 minutes.
  11. I'm likely to buy the set for precisely those reasons. But I'm a Philistine and cheapskate.
  12. Thanks. I have the Bremen and it's very good, better than I expected. Nitpicking, but you meant the new Rhino set (p.1 upthread), not Mosaic (emphasis added), right? [There have been so many tedious and pointless "what if" Mosaic threads of late that the word spooked me. 🤣]
  13. Right-clicking and selecting "open link in incognito [InPrivate] window" works in Chrome [Edge] browser.
  14. I noticed that the original Jazz Messengers link, under Customers who bought this product also bought, links to a similar Blossom Dearie vinyl package at the same price. But the Dearie is Currently unavailable. 😢Must have sold out. 😄
  15. As long as the vinyl market stays (IMO) this crazy, people will keep pushing the price envelope. I've been wondering whether the vinyl craze will survive the expected recession, but time will tell.
  16. Thanks. Excellent writer, and brings back a lot of memories for me. Grew up in the Chicago area but moved away around '78 and lost touch after the mid '80s. Loved the Reader back in the day.
  17. Thanks. I have that Evening With the Devil CD and a single-disc P-Vine CD of Volume 2. I did some research into the tracks before buying Vol. 2, and decided I didn't really need the remix. Good to confirm I have all the Vol. 1 tracks. This vinyl reissue got my attention because of the Tribe magazine replicas (which is a nice idea) and stratospheric price. Must have been aimed at the Japanese collectors market. I'm not sure who else would make such an investment.
  18. Managed to read the story w/o paywall by some miracle. Saw the survey, expected somebody to say Rockit. Got almost all the way through with no mention, but it finally got named. 😄
  19. I noticed this quite a while back, but can't help commenting. Get a load of this Japanese Tribe vinyl reissue: https://www.dustygroove.com/item/143180/Wendell-Harrison-Phil-Ranelin:Message-From-The-Tribe-Complete-4LP-10-7-magazine-box-set-Version-A LP reissue of all 3 versions of Message From the Tribe plus replicas of all issues of Tribe magazine(!), for a mere $500 MSRP. The reissue itself is available in 2 packages (differences unclear) at the same price. Version 3 is a remix of Version 2. Version 1 is somewhat different. I have a CD release of Version 2, and a Wendell Harrison CD release (Evening With the Devil) that includes the tunes from Version 1 (maybe different recording session, though) that aren't on 2 / 3. Too cheap to buy Version 3 for the remix, and I prefer the cover art of Version 2. This is a really cool release, but the price is kinda mind-blowing. Pretty big implied premium for the magazine replicas. I'd like to see the magazines, but couldn't pay the freight for this deal.
  20. I'm not a vinyl guy (and happy for that given current prices / quality control complaints), but hasn't there been a serious ongoing shortage of vinyl pressing plants? That may be contributing to the price trend.
  21. I agree with Lon and mjzee that it must be a repressing of 1,000 for a total of 3,500. I just can't imagine a total pressing of 8,500. Not to be an asshole curmudgeon, but is it unreasonable to expect a clearly worded release from Mosaic? Does anyone proofread anything these days?
  22. I also got the e-mail. The wording confuses me. It seems to imply they're pressing an additional 3,500 copies, which is improbably large IMO. ISTR the initial pressing was 2,500 copies. Maybe they mean the add'l pressing is 1,000 copies for a total of 3,500?
  23. +1. 100% These never-ending discussions seem paradoxical, to put it mildly. Mosaic looks like a small two-man enterprise that is (maybe not so) gradually winding down. Is there any indication that they care about these suggestions? IMO, one of the points of a project aimed at the niche audience of "jazz connoisseurs" is not needing to "sell jazz" or "broaden the audience". OTOH, as that niche audience ages and dies off, so will the project. However, given the age of the two principals that may not be a big concern.
