in the 50s, JOS was using his jazz percussion sounds, etc in the late 60s/early 70s, Jon Lord pioneered the overdriven Hammond beast but i was just checkin out YES footage shot on handicam back in 1988, on it, tony uses the synthesizer pitch bend, as expression on his Hammond organ patch. It sounds so good.

the only zappa bootlegs ive regularly listened to are shows from 1974 and 1981. ive been scared to delve into the world of frank concerts just casue its going to be so daunting to try and do it the way i wanna do it. right now i am listening to zappas pre-Freak Out! discography the thing i notice in franks early singles, on one song he can be really funky, on the next he can play blues as good as bb king, on another song, he might play jazz, on yet another, now hes in a "garage" rock type of vein, the variety on the singles is great he recorded under many different band names for labels such as DEL-FI back in the early 60s.....chewy recommendation: i highly recommended seeking this stuff out: to research, try using he term: THE CUCOMONGA YEARS. as in rancho cucomonga, calif- where franks studio was

dude, i dunno anymore- when i was in like 10th grade i scored some tix 2 his concert, every song in the whole concert sounded exactly like the one before. years later someone instructed me about how jeff beck is the greatest "missed opportunity" in all of rock. after the concert, one dude was saying how he thinks beck quoted like 1/2 of a lick from a yardbirds song that night, but he really wasnt sure

here we go again- my guess is michael cuscuna is a thousand miles away from this project, ditto rudy v. gelder. I also bet you they are using for the master, U-matic copies blue note sent out to whomever to do their dirty work for them. If this was a mastering of the unreleased Tyrone Washingon Trainweck album, i would pick up a copy probably -

THE worst album.... EVER!!!
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to Big Al's topic in Miscellaneous Music
what, did u read on AMG that "too old to r&r" was a disapointment, so now you think it? the critics have been spewing that about since back in '76...and here u are, in twenty-08, licking up rock-critic diehereea quote ian: "I must confess I'm slightly put off by the fact that the 'Too Old To Rock And Roll' song was completely refused as a single by the rock press and by BBC radio. I hadn't realised just how difficult it is at the BBC these days to get plays." but anyone who was there can tell you that the tour for it was stellar: the new album sounded even better on stage...some of the songs, which never stuck in the regular tull setlist again, i urge you to watch this clip from the tour stop in Flordia: -
if u want a huge list of these, consult the steve hofmann forums, there is a sizeable list over there...can someone say Frampton Comes Alive? lol

Crazy Tuba Guy. I can't say I ever had a fondness, or particularly cared, for him- but never would I have wished this fate upon him, and I do feel very bad. at the ballet, like at swan lake for example, there was crazy tuba guy, playing the bass part by himself outside after the show. Bom-Bom Bom Bom BOm boooooom bom bom- he was also in front of every rock concert at the colliseum and apparently he also made every sports event too, both at the seattle center as well as the mariners games. the last time i saw crazy tuba guy, it was sans tuba, at ballard bros cajun fish sandwich reastaurant, i looked up, saw him in his trademark funny hat, and thought "oh god, its crazy tuba guy". queen anne neighbourhood where this happneed is not exactly the heart of urban downtown, and it is very shocking that this happened right there. on a day to day basis you never see shit like that. a gang of 15 yr old boys....my god. they had to kill crazy tuba guy. fucking bullshit
