  2. i have to strees again how the oppurutnites to hear "straight-shit bebop" are dwindling: so ill let u in: If you Seattle guys really want to see im again, he told me he's gonna have a weekly gig or something at a place on 2nd & James, i think he said its some Spanish place....i have no idea what its called or when the gig is....if anyone of you know what it is, youre set...if not lets all try to figure it out!!!
  3. I think it was fate all you guys missed it- cause if Organissimo world-and Chewy World unite, there will be an IMPLOSION and all jazz will be lost in a black hole, and no one can make jazz ever again
  4. SEE, EVERYONE GETS SCREWED OVER. EVEN THIS CHICK WHO EVERYONE LIKED AND DID HER JOB WELL, THE STILL FIRED HER.
  5. there must be a reason that kenny cox isnt on cd. maybe they lost the tapes or they dont think anyone will ever buy it-- besides you fine chaps of course
  6. just got a very clean copy for 5 bucks today (and a bunch of 'rennaissance' lps). Its a radio promo copy and has a timing sticker slapped firmly on the back, obscuring part of the notes. Does anyone know what other prominent "west coast jazz" players it feartures, etc?

  9. Herbie DID reunite the MWANDKDIDSHI band in san francisco, circa 00 or maybe 01. buster williams billy hart bennie maupin and herbie and julian prister, right? it was a benift show for J.P- and it must of worked cause i just saw him 90 min. ago
  10. TIRED-CHEWY-CHEW-CHEW-HERE-REPORTING BACK: SAW 'LITTLE-DEX' IN CONCERT TONIGHT AND HE WAS ****KILLIN'!!!!!!!!!!!!**** I CANT BELIEVE IVE NEVER SEEN HIM B4 HE ROCKED THE HOUSE. IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH THE $12 COVER AND THEN SOME. WHEN I LOOKED OVER AND SAW JULIAN PRIESTER PUTTING HIS TROMBONE TOGETHER, I KNEW THEY WERE GONNA MAKE JAZZ!!! AND MAKE JAZZ THEY DID: J.P DOESNT PLAY VERY LOUDLY BUT HE WAS VERY GOOD. BUT LITTLE DEX STOLE THE SHOW. TOWARDS THE END HADLEY BROUGHT UP A YOUNGER TENOR GUY, I GUESS HE STILL RESPECTS THE 'TWO TENOR' THING, U KNOW. THEY PLAYED A 'DIG' AND A GOOD MANCINI TUNE CALLED HOT COLD WIND OR SOMETHIN AND THEY PLAYED TENOR MADNESS AND THEY PLAYED STANDARDS TOO. IT WAS THE BEST REAL JAZZ BEBOP SHOW IVE SEEN IN A REAL LONG TIME.
  11. fusion/confusion? what does he say? i thought LD would like fusion....
  12. Chewy-Chew-Chew/Bennie Maupin fan here reporting here: Chewy has seen B.M in a few different contexts- the 1st being the full-blown headhunters reunion concert, circa 97 or98 which was seriously awesome. secondly bennie used to have weekly gig at some really weird big weird sunset blvd. hotel, in their little bar/dinner room, (i think called Bonaventure): The #1 thing i remember about that gig was it was truly the worst traffic jam i'd ever encountered in my entire life to get there, hands down, by far. but besides that IT WAS MY FAVORITE BENNIE GIG. ***WHEN I WALKED IN, HE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A CRAZY ASS REALLY FREE BASS CLAIRNET SOLO. THEN A FEW MIN. LATER THE BAND GOT ALL FUNKY, BUT NOT REGULAR FUNKY IT WAS ALL CRAZY FUNK LIKE HEADHUNTERS 3000. THE PIANO GUY HAD 1 SYNTHESIZER ON TOP OF HIS GRAND PIANO AND HE STARTED TO GET FREAKY-FREAKY WITH IT. THIS IS MY FAVORITE BENNIE CONCERT. I also saw him w/ this worn out really crazy and i mean crazy tonite show musian "sal marquez" but also in the band it was tootie on the skins. HERE WAS A GOOD SHOW TO SEE BENNIE PLAY MORE STRAIGHT AHEAD SWINGING BEBOP JAZZ.............BUT BENNIE WAS ANYTHING BUT STRAIGHT AHEAD-- HE WAS MORE LIKE OUT OF CONTROL. HE WAS SO DAM GOOD
  13. yea right- i challenge this proposal- i have tons of old bn 45s im gonna listen to em
  14. did u guys really write the ace cannon liner notes comparing him to charlie parker
  15. regarding his arranging, isnt he the one who paried up a lot of famous blue note bands who weren't working groups. also isnt it true he always wasnt credited w/ his arrangements on blue note records
  16. how is producing a jazz lp different than producing a pop record... if the artists know what they want to do and have control over the music than what input does the producer give in jazz
