  1. The ref can give a yellow card for embellishing , to be fair one ref for such a wide field and so many players to cover is asking a lot , the assistants on the sidelines can also inform the ref if he has a better POV but as I mentionnned in my previous post, main problem is to whom the crime profits ... To what erwbol mentions they are two philosophies there is the one that known as the fair play thing propagated by mostly Anglo-saxon countries and the win at all cost way of life more popular in such places as South America (think of Luis Suarez preventing a goal by using his hands against Ghana in 2010). where using the rules to our advantage is perceived to be part of the game.
  2. That Fred embelished the fall is nothing new it's unfortunately a part of the game, that the ref decided to give a penality call for such a minor infraction is where it gets fishy , there's a lot more tugging and pulling inside the box throughout the game than during the litigious moment, it gives the everlasting feeling that during the World Cup teams that are relevant get breaks that lesser teams don't. Reverse the roles , do you seriously think that tthe ref would have granted Croatia a penality if their forward have been impeded in a similar fashion ... Contrary to Jim except for the dubious call, felt that it was an enjoyable game , competitive enough with some flashes of brilliance and overall offensive minded action, I like Oscar despite him playing for a team that I dislike (Chelsea) maybe not physical enough to go through the grind as a perennial starter in Premier League though but the guy displays great things when he is on his game.. The two first games of the day Mexico-Cameroon and Netherlands-Spain are worth doing the couch potato routine, Chile-Australia is almost an highlites only match unless you are a hardcore or of course citizen or fan of these respective countries. Doesn't mean game will be bad, actually the game between the 2010 finalists could be a stalemate with Netherland promising to be in counter attack mode against a team that likes to keep the ball by making short safe passes.
  3. Very enjoyable concert in front of an appreciative crowd. One of the pleasure of being alive in 2014 is to be ablle to see live Hamid Drake , can say I've lived a great life as I had to pleasure to attend so many concerts involving this gentleman that I forgot the count.. Anyway if you can catch the later gigs , go for it.
  4. Just started reading that one. I shall see. Read the first volume in a French translation and I don't think it's as deep as his previous ones, haven't bother to read the following ones of this series
  5. Was scared that you were talking about them instead
  6. Of course a result against Ghana is needed as if you wanna be better than two teams in such a competition you have no other choice than get results with at least two teams, I have a hard time imagining any of these teams getting more than a moral victory against the Germans so it becomes a three way race for the second spot. Schedule wise the fact that the Portugal game is the one before the last and dreaded game against Gotze and co makes it more vital as if even they manage one or no point against Ghana the Portugal will still be the make or break game . I do think that the US have a team that can get a result against Ghana although historically they have been a thorn in their side.
  7. Better cheer for Netherlands than Canada footie wise Here's something ironic they actually have a Canadian player lining up for them in Jonathan De Guzman
  8. The draw is hard to understand and explain because they have to make sure that they aren't three European teams in any group nor that they should be two representatives of the same continent in any group. You could say that the top tems of the groups shown above are the top seeds . Gotta say I'm quite excited especially for the early round action as almost every group seems to have some kind of a spot in the balance. If the groups A,F, G and H look to have a clear favourite for the top spot, it looks like a nice battle for the three other teams to fight off the remaining spot. The other groups are rather well balanced and your guess about who's going to qualify are as good as mine. For the Yanks here, the key matchup is against Portugal if they manage a win against them it could be the key to a second place and with CR7 not in complete shape, everything is possible.
  9. Before announcing that this art form is going the way of the dodo you have to think that It also depends of the musicians playing some are able to relate to younger crowd, either by their way of playing or their repertoire a guy like Paal Nilssen-Love will attract a younger crowd , The Bad Plus, EST and Neil Cowley have an overwhelming young fanbase. Meldhau who has included Radihead among others in his repertoire generally attracts an hipper crowd. Same thing with Robert Glasper. In all these case mentionned I would say that the age average was a lot younger than more" traditional acts ".
  10. Has it even happened to you that as you put on a shirt of a T-Shirt you notice it has wrinkles on it and you pull out the flat iron you hesitate before taking off the wrinkled piece of clothing ?
  11. Unfortunately not suprised, talented guy but I've heard stories about him similar to what Kevin mentionned about playing while under influence , hope he gets his shit together.
  12. Started reading Histoire de ma Vie from Casanova , bought the newest edition which is according to experts a way better retranscription than the previous ones.
  13. The boy lying on the left seems to be gazing at her cleevage and the boys beside him seem to be catching on ...
  14. Would it, though? I doubt that these days Rosemary Clooney has much more of a following than Anthony Braxton. It's not like it's a Mosaic of Miley Cyrus or somebody. I imagine the motivation is the usual one: artistic. I have no proof except my gut feeling that usually vocalists fare better in terms of selling , especially those who have a bit of fame , I do agree though that for a high priced box set the impact should be less.
  15. It's a meh for me also, that said business wise it probably makes sense , anyway there is still material from Mosaic I haven't yet acquired that I should try to get eventually...
  16. The Thing with McPhee is indeed baddddddddddddddd !
  17. Mats comes here to play on a regular basis but I don't think I got to see his" other side" , like you leeway I try not to miss him when he comes to town, unfortunately he does not seem to be part of the Suoni this year, great review indeed, personal while still informative and enjoyable to read.
